Siena Women, Iona Men Close Out ECAC Winter Championship With Team Titles

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The 2024 ECAC Winter Championship drew to a close on Sunday evening, with Iona’s men and Siena’s women earning conference crowns. Siena finished the weekend with 1390 team points, while the men of Iona dominated with 2002, nearly 500 ahead of second place.

Sunday began with the 1650 free, and Stony Brook’s Franny Baber collected the first individual title of the day, wrapping up the race in 18:22.26. Monmouth sophomore Ziv Cohen, the meet record holder in the men’s event, added another conference crown to his collection with a time of 15:25.12.

In the women’s 200 back, Iona freshman Raegan O’Brien impressed once again, turning in a first-place mark of 2:03.49 to hold off Monmouth’s Jenna Pryne (2:04.84.) The men’s event followed, with Iona standout Michael Faughnan producing another meet record (1:43.86) en route to being the top finisher.

Baber turned in her second event win of the day with a time of 51.55 in the women’s 100 free, though Edie Ancell (51.66) of Monmouth and Amelia Mayers (51.89) of Felician made the finish an exciting one. A pair of Iona sophomores took the top two spots in the men’s 100 free, as Kieran Egan (43.95) came within a tenth of a second from the meet record, and teammate Nate Wales (45.21) ended the race on his heels.

The women’s 200 breast saw Monmouth’s Emilie Mosner take home first place with a time of 2:19.95, followed by fellow Hawk Victor Pottier Ibanez (2:03.90) on the men’s side. Laura Marin (2:03.12) of Long Island snagged the individual title in the women’s 200 fly, while sophomore Noah Giunta added to the total for the Iona men, doing so in 1:49.78.

The Stony Brook group of Baber, Michelle Vu, Brenna Mowrey and Alanna Depinto (3:29.36) took the top spot in the women’s 400 free relay, holding off Long Island (3:29.91) in a tight finish. Iona closed out the weekend in impressive fashion, with Egan, Wales, Liam Pyatt and Faughnan teaming up for a new meet record time of 2:57.25 in the final event of the day.

Faughnan was named the Men’s Swimmer of the Meet, and Iona coach Nick Cavataro took home the Men’s Coach of the Meet honors. On the women’s side, O’Brien earned the highest individual honor, and Siena coach Maggie Davenport took home the coaching award.
