After the first day of action at the 2024 Fall Frenzy, the home team holds the lead as the Queens Women lead the field with 108 points. On the men’s side, Wingate currently holds a narrow lead over Queens, 112-106.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  The Queens University of Charlotte swim teams delivered impressive performances on the opening day of the 2024 Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy at the Levine Aquatic Center. The Royals made a strong statement in the 800-yard freestyle relay events, with the women’s relay squad claiming a pool record. Find the full results here.

The Queens women’s team clinched the top spot in the 800-yard freestyle relay posting a pool-record time of 7:17.25. The relay team consisted of Sabina KupcovaAbigail ZboranMaddie Foster, and Bianca Wettel, whose consistent splits secured the victory. Kupcova and Zboran established early momentum, while Foster and Wettel sealed the win with strong closing splits.

The Queens men’s team secured a second place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:31.71. The quartet of Daniel MeszarosMatej DusaOndrej Dusa, and Lance Young staying competitive with top finisher Wingate. Meszaros’ swift opening leg set the tone, with Young delivering a strong anchor leg to maintain the Royals’ position.

DAY 1 STANDINGS
The Royals concluded the first day with their women’s team atop the standings with 108 points, edging out Duquesne (104). The men’s team sits in second place with 106 points, just behind Wingate (112). Queens’ swimmers will look to build on their early success as the Fall Frenzy continues later this week.

Charlotte, N.C. – The Duquesne University swimming & diving team opened competition at the Fall Frenzy Thursday evening, hosted by Queens University inside Levine Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.

The Dukes sit second after the first day of action with 104 points. The host Royals lead a field of 11 teams with 108 points while Nova Southeastern (90), Wingate (82), La Salle (70), and University of North Carolina Asheville (70) round of the top five.

The 800-yard freestyle was the only event of the competition on Thursday as Duquesne captured a third-place finish. The team of sophomore Lexi Sundgren, senior Orla Egan, freshman Ashley Freel, and senior Haley Scholer touched the wall at 7:24.64 to secure the bronze.

The Dukes also registered a fifth-place finish as the team of sophomore Julia Sobun, freshman Kaitlyn Connors, junior Aislinn Mooney, and freshman Sierra Snow registered a time of 7:27.19.

CHARLOTTE, NC. – The Sharks Men’s and Women’s Swim teams started competition at the Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy, hosted by Queens. At the conclusion of day one, both teams sit in third place.

Florida Tech – Recap

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Florida Tech men’s and women’s swimming team competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay for the first events of the Fall Frenzy hosted by Queens in Charlotte, N.C.

Women’s 800 Free Relay:
The Panthers’ relay team on the women’s side consisted of Abby BriggsKate HelminiakMaja Malarz, and Miranda Olhasso, who posted a combined time of 7:36.42, which was 11th overall in the field. (Briggs: 1.54.38, Helminiak: 1:51.88, Malarz: 1:55.67, Olhasso: 1:54.49).

All four Panthers in the relay posted season-best times in the 200 free.

Men’s 800 Free Relay:
The men’s relay team consisted of Efe OngorenAdam SzczerbaAkos Hajagos, and Sebastian Washington, who posted a combined time of 6:37.83, which was good for seventh overall in the field. (Ongoren: 1:38.22, Szczerba: 1:39.93, Hajagos: 1:39.22, Washington: 1:40.46).

Ongoren’s 200 free time of 1:38.22 broke former Panther Luke Altmann’s record set at the Panther Invite last season (1:38.23). Szczerba and Washington both posted season best times in the 200 free as well.

COACHES CORNER:
“It was a good night for us,” said head coach Tony Marleneanu. “I think we were a bit nervous and made a few mistakes, but still good swims on both relays. Efe Ongoren did manage to set a new school record and lowered his NCAA cut time as well, and he will have another chance this weekend to lower that even more.”

UP NEXT: Florida Tech will continue the event with day two of the Fall Frenzy tomorrow, Nov. 22. The Panthers will be competing in the 500 free, the 200 IM, and the 50 free preliminary rounds. The first event is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Charlotte, N.C. —- The 10th-ranked Catawba College men and the 13th-ranked Catawba women’s swimming teams both broke school records in the 800 freestyle relay during action on opening day of the 2024 Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy in Charlotte on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

800 Freestyle Relay

– The Catawba women placed 14th in a loaded heat of the opening event, finishing in 7:41.19, besting a school record

– The men followed up with an impressive third-place finish just ahead of nationally ranked Nova Southeastern with a mark of 6:34.06

– Catawba’s time qualified as an NCAA B-cut, marking the first time in program history the Catawba Indians have posted an NCAA standard time in the 800 Free Relay and their first in any relay since 2017.
