The Youngstown State women’s swimming and diving program wrapped up their home schedule in impressive fashion as they battled Saint Francis in a dual inside Beeghly Natatorium.
The Penguins came out victorious in 12 events total on the day.
Hanna Held continued her very impressive sophomore season as she captured event victories in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. Held posted a scored a score of 258.45 in the one-meter dive, and a score of 300.00 in the three-meter dive. Ellen Linscheid (241.73) and Emma Schum (240.90) finished second and third in the one-meter dive. Natalie Weissman (239.10) and Schum (235.80) finished second and third in the three-meter dive.
Senior Oliwia Kaniak had another very strong meet for the Penguin women, as she captured three individual event victories. Kaniak claimed a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.57. Her teammate Eloise Fisher finished third for the Penguins with a time of 1:08.62. Kaniak finished first in the 200 breaststroke as she swam a time of 2:24.22. Her final individual event victory of the day came in the 200 IM, as her time of 2:10.19 edged out second place by just over one second. Sydnie Collins finished third with a time of 2:16.36.
Like Kaniak, Junior Miriam Frass won three events for the Penguins as well. The first victory of the meet for Frass came in the 200 free, swimming a time of 1:54.36. Madelyn Mahoney finished in third, clocking a time of 1:59.50. She also won the 500 free, as her time of 5:10.04 was three seconds faster than the second-place time. Hailey Clark finished third in the event, swimming a time of 5:16.22. The final victory for Frass came in the 100 free, as her time of 53.44 was just two-tenths of a second faster than the second-place time.
Freshman Olivia Sweetman finished first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:36.20. The Penguins claimed crucial points in the event as Hailey Clark finished second with a time of 10:40.81, and Morgan Glass rounded out the top three with a time of 10:48.65.
Natalia Andres won the 200 butterfly in a very tight race, as her time of 2:09.46 was just seven-hundredths of a second quicker than her teammate Allison Ramirez Romero who finished second with a time of 2:09.53.
Ramirez Romero had an event victory of her own on the day, as she claimed the win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.21, which was just over six-tenths of a second quicker than Andres, who finished second with a time of 59.75 as the two ladies flip-flopped finishing positions.
Madelyn Mahoney finished second in the 50 free with a time of 25.29, Anna Kozinska claimed a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.01, the 200-medley relay team of Kozinska, Kaniak, Ramirez Romero, and Amelia Matzke claimed a second-place finish with a time of 1:49.67, and the 400-free relay squad of Mahoney, Glass, Sweetman, and Frass finished second in the event with a time of 3:39.06 collectively.
The Penguins won the meet overall by a score of 139-123.

The Penguins will return to the pool in 12 days as they take the quick trip up north to Cleveland State as they will compete in the Magnus Cup on Nov. 21-23 as Busbey Natatorium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Individually, Kurtzweil won the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke with times of 58.41 and 2:08.68, respectively.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Bernasconi took first, clocking in at 25.08.
The Red Flash also won the final event of the day in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Aurem Pifarre, Katie Webster, Bernasconi and Horova finished at 3:35.65.
