Miron Lifincev Cranks Out 52.08 100 Back For World Junior Record & Possible Big Bucks

2024 RUSSIAN SWIMMING CUP

18-year-old Miron Lifincev saved his best swim for last at the 2024 Russian Swimming Cup.

Racing on St. Petersburg men’s medley relay tonight in Yekaterinburg, Lifincev fired off a 100m back opener of 52.08.

The teen opened in 25.00 and closed in 27.08 to help boost his squad to gold. In the process. Lifincev crushed a new World Junior Record, undercutting the 52.34 he produced at April’s Russian Championships.

New WJR – 52.08 Previous WJR – 52.34
25.00 25.34
27.08 27.00

Lifincev topped Kliment Kolesnikov earlier in the competition in the individual men’s 100m back, with the former clocking 52.52 to the latter’s 52.64.

Tonight’s 52.08 keeps Lifincev ranked 3rd among all-time Russian performers.

Russian Men’s LCM 100 Backstroke Performers All-Time

  1. Kliment Kolesnikov – 51.82, 2023
  2. Evgeny Rylov – 51.97, 2019
  3. Miron Lifincev – 52.08, 2024
  4. Arkady Vyatchanin – 52.57, 2009
  5. Dmitrii Savenko – 52.90, 2024

As a reminder, the Russian Swimming Federation is offering bonuses to the tune of 2 million rubles (~$23,000 USD) if event winners here clock a better time than the Olympic champion in Paris.

The winning time from the 2020 Olympic Games was 51.98 from teammate Evgeny Rylov, so Lifincev’s outing is just .10 off that result for perspective. Additionally, Lifincev now ranks as the #2 backstroker in the world right now, sitting only behind China’s Xu Jiayu.

A country who has repeatedly violated the integrity of athletic competition with multiple instances of government controlled doping programs.

Especially when the man who threatens to bomb Palestine on social media is allowed to compete and serve as Israeli flag bearer.
