Arizona High School State Finalist Jaidan Engle Commits to University of Idaho (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

The University of Idaho will be welcoming Arizona High School Division I State Championship finalist Jaidan Engle this fall. Engle currently trains with Swim Neptune and is a senior at Casteel High School in Arizona where she holds the school’s 100 backstroke record.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Idaho! I want to thank my family, coaches, and friends for their endless support.”

In 2022, Engle shaved .62 seconds off her 100 back time in prelims to place 5th at the Arizona High School Division I State Championship. Her 100 back time (58.57) was a personal best and stands as the record for Casteel High School. She was also named MVP of the team for the 2nd year in a row.

As a senior this season, Engle was a two-time finalist at the Arizona High School Division I State Championship where she secured 4th in the 100 back (58.66) and 6th in the 100 fly with a lifetime best of 58.41.

Engle achieved over 15 personal bests between SCY and LCM events in 2023, including her best SCY 100 back time (58.25) at the AZ NEP Harvest Splash meet. So far in 2024, she has shown improvement in three LCM events: the 50 back (32.91), 100 back (1:09.30), and 100 fly (1:08.77).

Top SCY Times

  • 50 free – 25.17
  • 100 free – 54.15
  • 50 back – 27.63
  • 100 back – 58.25
  • 100 fly – 58.41
  • 200 IM – 2:11.01

Engle’s arrival this fall is set to bolster the Vandals’ backstroke group, as she would have ranked 5th this season behind freshman Catherine Hyde’s time of 57.38.

After placing 7th at the WAC Championships last year, the University of Idaho moved up the ranks this season to capture 6th place on the women’s side. Junior Ella Haskins broke her own school record in the 100 free (49.73) and 50 free (22.82) at the meet, while the 400 free relay team of Sydney Heasman, Madelynn Butler, Grace Ruble, and Haskins broke a 10-year-old school record, posting a time of 3:21.13.

Heasman, Butler, Ruble, and Haskins also shattered the 10-year-old 200 free relay record with a time of 1:32.16. Additionally, freshman Ginger Kiefer swam a 4:17.78 to break the school’s 400 IM record. The team excelled academically this year as well, with the swimming and diving team averaging a 3.77 GPA, a program record.

Engle will join Rylie Moxham, Caleigh Stoddard, Marie Mason, Holly Lenarz, Courtney Crawford, Charlie Zollinger, Andie Wieber, Sienna Lefeber, Kaitlyn Hafer, and Adelaide McRoberts as a part of the Vandals’ recruiting class of 2024 under Mark Sowa for his 14th year as head coach. Crawford, who trains near Engle, was also an Arizona high school state finalist.
