MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women’s swimming & diving team hosted the Tommies of St. Thomas today in their first of two weekend matches, winning by a score of 196-103.
Grace Brehm and Erika Thomas both had big days in the water as they came away with two wins each. Brehm came out on top in the 50 free and the 100 fly, while Thomas earned victories in the 200 free and the 200 individual medley.
Joining Brehm on the podium of the 100 fly were Kylee Radigan in second and Jenna Van Hoogstraten in third, completing a Panther sweep of the event. The Panthers also swept the 50 free, as Noelle Bryan (2nd) and Janelle Schulz (3rd) joined Brehm there.
Julie Rebek won both the 1 and 3 meter dives on the day, scoring 267.15 in the 1 meter and 264.30 in the 3 meter. Therese Missiaen joined Rebek on the 1 meter podium, finishing third, while also finishing second in the 3 meter dive. Kristina Wittman rounded out the 3 meter podium finishing third.
Carly Plate won the 100 back, touching the wall in 58.94 seconds. Radigan followed closely in third with a time of 1:00.45. Brielle Laube finished first in the 100 free, finishing in 54.05 seconds, and was followed by Grace Mayes in second.
Allie Buytendorp and Sasha Gesner finished first and second in the 500 free, finishing nearly 11 seconds ahead of the third place finisher. Skylar Ruggles won the 200 back with a time of 2:06.90, while Kate Hackett finished third in the event.
Johanna Edgren and Bella Sponseller each grabbed two second place finishes. Edgren securing hers in the 200 breaststroke and the 400 IM, while Sponseller’s came in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM.
Grace Hudson earned a second place finish in the 200 free, while Ava Schlageter finished third in the 200 breaststroke. Lilly Nesson finished third in the 400 IM, and Hanna Degrace took third in the 100 breaststroke.
The Panther relay teams earned four podium finishes through the two events. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Plate, Thomas, Degrace, and Schulz finished first, while the team of Laube, Mayes, Lucy Borlase, and Mara Freeman took third. In the 200 free relay, the team of Plate, Laube, Bryan, and Schulz won, and the team of Van Hoogstraten, Mayes, Hudson, and Freeman finished third.
“It was a great team win tonight,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “We had so many different people that gave us great times and important points. We are looking forward to keeping the momentum going into our meet vs Point tomorrow and ending our dual meet season on a high note.”
The Panthers are right back in the pool tomorrow afternoon for senior day against Stevens Point. Senior recognition is scheduled to start at approximately 12:45 p.m., with events starting afterwards at 1:00.
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men’s swimming and diving team hosted the University of St. Thomas Tommies today to open their final weekend of the regular season. The Panthers came out on top by a score of 198-101 to improve to an unbeaten 4-0 at home this season.
Charlie House led the way for the home team, winning two individual events on the day. The first-year Panther won the 100 free in a time of 46.77 seconds and the 200 free with a 1:43.02 mark. Emery Reszka followed close behind House in second in the 200 free, while also winning the 200 back with a time of 1:53.12.
Jay Jensen was also a large contributor winning two events of his own while also earning a second place finish. Jensen took the top spot in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM while finishing second in the 50 free.
Adam St. John and Ben Stitgen finished first and second in both the 1 and 3 meter dives, winning by more than 30 points at each height. St. John put together scores of 294.90 (1m) and 303.00 (3m), while Stitgen scored 292.50 (1m) and 285.60 (3m).
Robert Petersen led a sweep of the 200 fly, touching the wall in 1:54.96. Petersen was followed by Zach McClellan and Ben Witt in second and third, respectively.
Andrew Jones found the podium twice for the Panthers. The freshman won the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 59.57 seconds, and placed second in the 200 breaststroke.
Jackson Ahrens led the way in the 50 free, recording a time of 21.48 seconds. Vince Chiappetta topped the field in the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in 4:16.37.
Freshman Asa Sadowsky earned two podiums, winning the 100 fly in 51.46 seconds and placing third in the 100 back. Konnor Pilger topped the field in the 500 free with a time of 4:46.32.
Zach McClellan earned a second place finish to Sadowsky in the 100 fly, and Victor Kostov took second in the 200 back. Travis Hull also earned a podium spot, finishing second in the 100 breaststroke.
Milwaukee took the top spot in both of the day’s relays. House, Ahrens, Lorenz, and Jared Bruce combined for a 1:23.64 mark in the 200 free relay, while the 200 medley relay team of Lorenz, Jones, Witt, and Kostov finished first in 1:34.65. The Panther squad of Bruce, Jensen, Hull, and Griffin Hawley tied for second place in the medley relay.

MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The University of St. Thomas swim and dive teams were back in the pool for one last dual of the 2023-24 season. The Tommies traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to face the Panthers in a two team dual th.at ended with two Milwaukee victories. Though St. Thomas earned several individual wins, both the men’s and women’s teams came up short in the team competition, as the Panthers won by final scores of 198-101 (men) and 196-103 (women)
WOMEN’S RESULTS: ST. THOMAS (103) vs. MILWAUKEE (196)
St. Thomas continued to excel in multiple events, as the Tommies claimed individual titles in four different events Friday evening. After the “A” 200 medley relay team of Libby Fischer (Eagan, Minn. / Visitation), Grace Urkiel (Rosemount, Minn. / Rosemount), Lily Linden (Rochester, Minn. / Century) and Grace Forsberg (Rice Lake, Wis. / Rice Lake) earned a second place finish with a time of 1:49.11, Elizabeth Bonneville (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville South) earned the first individual win of the afternoon. The junior swam the fastest time in the pool in the 400 IM, claiming first place with a time of 4:40.56. Teammate Megan Toal (San Clemente, Calif. / San Juan Hills) also earned a top-5 finish in the race, coming in fourth with a time of 4:56.69.
Urkiel would once again sweep the breaststroke races, winning first in both the 100 and 200 races. The senior clocked a time of 1:06.01 in the 100 competition, winning the race by .5, before dominating the field in the 200 breaststroke. Urkiel won the race by over three full seconds, winning the event with a time of 2:28.62. Like in the 400 IM, Toal would finish fourth in the 200 breaststroke as well thanks to her time of 2:37.87.
Emily Wooden (Chino Hills, Calif. / Ayala) was the final Tommie to win an individual event Friday afternoon. The sophomore won the 200 yard breaststroke race by nearly seven seconds as St. Thomas swept the top three spots in the race. Wooden won the event with a time of 2:13.41, while Linden finished second with a time of 2:20.28. Rebecca Bishop (Houston, Texas / Cy-Fair) and Maggie Kolb (Afton, Minn. / Hill-Murray) also competed in the event, finishing fourth and fifth with times of 2:22.62 and 2:24.13 respectively.
On the diving side of things, first year Hattie Opdahl (Lindstrom, Minn. / Chisago Lakes) continued her impressive 2023-24 campaign, earning two top-5 finishes on Friday. Opdahl finished second in the 1-meter, six dive competition, earning a score of 266.40, before finishing fourth in the 3-meter competition with a score of 229.35.
MEN’S RESULTS: ST. THOMAS (101) vs. MILWAUKEE (198)
Like the women, the men’s team also found plenty of success in the pool on Friday. Lucas Becker (Carver, Minn. / Chanhassen) earned the lone individual win of the afternoon for the Tommies, claiming the top spot in the 100 backstroke. The first year out touched teammate Philip Jensen (Hastings, Minn. / Hastings) by .3 at the wall, claiming first place with a time of 52.04. Jenson would finish second thanks to his time of 52.33, while A.J. Carollo (Long Grove, Ill. / Stevenson) would finish fifth in potentially the last dual meet of his collegiate career.
St. Thomas also put together several other strong performances in the other individual races. Tommy Seiler (Menomonee Falls, Wis. / Menomonee Falls) and Thomas Yatso (Milwaukee, Wis. / Shorewood) finished two-three in the 400 IM, clocking times of 4:17.68 and 4:21.53 respectively, while Alex Foti (Waukesha, Wis. / West) put together strong performances in three freestyle races. The junior finished third in both the 100 and 200 freestyle races before earning a second place finish in the 500. Foti finished just one second behind the leader in the distance race, earning second place with a time of 4:47.76.
All three divers placed in both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. Austin Kantor (Elk River, Minn. / Elk River) was the highest finisher on the 1-meter board, earning a six-dive score of 254.85, while Ben Linde (Andover, Minn. / Andover) earned a third place finish on the 3-meter board with a six dive score of 248.40.
UP NEXT
St. Thomas will compete in one final meet before the Summit League Championships, set to take place February 21-24 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Before the Tommies take the pool for conference, they will swim in the U of M Last Chance Meet February 9-10 at the University of Minnesota.
