EASTON, Pa. – MG King paced the Raiders with three victories and Colgate secured 12 event wins as a team in a dual battle at Lafayette on Saturday afternoon.
“The first away meet is always a good learning experience,” said head coach Ed Pretre. “Our upperclassmen showed great veteran leadership to our young team today with showing and explaining to them how to be prepared on the road. It’s so nice to see this great caring culture evolve over the last few years. It was definitely a good first step, we look forward to going faster next week!”
King earned victories in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 200-yard IM to lead the Raiders to a 165-131 triumph as a team. Lucy Art, Nora Bergstrom, and Audrey Collins captured two victories apiece.
King’s first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle came in 1:56.73, nearly two seconds faster than Lafayette’s closest opponent. Elizabeth Rainey and Dana Witte captured top-five finishes in fourth and fifth, respectively.
King’s second victory came in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:08.16, nearly three full seconds before Lafayette’s second-place swimmer. The Lake Forest, Ill., native secured the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:11.42.
Art took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.51 seconds, less than a half-second quicker than Lafayette’s second-place swimmer. Brooke Garretson and Art tied for first place in the 100-yard freestyle, both turning in times of 54.34 seconds.
Bergstrom came away with a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:54.70), besting her second-place teammate Katie Senglaub. Bergstrom’s second victory came in the 500-yard freestyle (5:19.70).
Collins’ two wins came in the 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:07.63 and 58.97 seconds in the two events, respectively.
Colgate’s relay team of Garretson, Rainey, Jordan Hurt, and Art claimed first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.98. The 400-yard medley quartet of King, Regan Hau, Collins, and Art earned a first-place time of 3:59.20.

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette swimming and diving competed against Colgate in the first home meet of the season on Saturday at Weinstein Natatorium. The men won, 199-99, and the women lost, 165-131.
For the men, there was a magnitude of first-place finishes. Junior Peter Kawash, freshman Charlie Barker, junior Avery Letourneau and senior James Lapsley snagged the win in the 400 medley relay for a 3:29.93 finish. Kawash also had first-place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke (1:00.49, 2:14.63) and the 200-yard IM (1:56.62). Barker finished with a 48.41 in the 100-yard freestyle and Letourneau in the 100-yard fly (51.84).
Sophomore Tommy Weber had victories in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle (1:44.55, 4:51.78) and the 200 freestyle relay, assisting the team in a 1:25.56 finish. Junior Andrew Campbell swam a 10:02.68 in the 1000-yard freestyle for a first-place finish. Freshman Alexander Reihl had a win in the 50-yard freestyle (21.62) and freshman diver Landon Orth found victories in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives (288.00, 241.65).
The women had two standout performers, sophomore Isabella Van Ess and junior Maggie Ivie. Van Ess reeled in victories in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke (1:07.9, 2:23.44), while Ivie pulled out a win in the 100 backstroke (59.73).
Sophomore Emma Luttrell had two second-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200 fly (5:19.11, 2:13.03). Freshmen Caroline Schenck and Diedre Scudder found success as well. Schenck swam a 1:58.27 in the 200-yard freestyle for second and Scudder placed second and third, respectively, in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke (59.96, 2:11.56).
“We had a really great meet today for both teams. Our men started strong and just kept it going strong. The women swam very well compared to our performances at Loyola and there is a much bigger group of contributors this year. It’s going to be a great dual meet season,” said Lafayette head coach James Daily. “We’ve already had some performances that have been added to our all-time top-10.”
The Maroon and White continue their season Nov. 4 at 12 p.m. at Navy where they will also face American, Army, and Bucknell.
