LORETTO, PA: The Red Flash had an outstanding Saturday in the water being able to win their meet as they traveled to LIU to play the Sharks along with St. Peter’s as well. The finish made it even more exciting in Long Island as it came down to the final relay race with the Red Flash securing 1st place by .17 seconds and a must have third place spot that was one by two one hundredths of a second.
Aurem Piffare led the way with two first place finishes in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle to get things started for Saint Francis. The Red Flash had the top three finishes in the 200 yard butterfly led by freshman Sara Turner who secured first place. Anna Bernasconi notched first place in the 50 yard freestyle with Krsyta Weik also securing first in the 200 yard breaststroke. The last race won for Saint Francis was a team effort as the relay squad of Oksana Horova, Aurem Pifarre, Paige Bacigal, and Anna Bernasconi helped the Red Flash close out the meet on top.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pifarre finished the 500 yard freestyle with a quick time of 5:09.27 along with a speedy time of 10:44.76 in the 1000 yard freestyle race.
Turner secured first place with a time of 2:09.57 in the 200 yard butterfly.
Bernasconi beat out her own teammate Paige Bacigal with a time of 24.97 in the 50 yard freestyle.
Weik also beat out her Red Flash teammater Lizzie Smeltzer with a fast time of 2:30.18 in the 200 yard breaststroke.
The relay team of Saint Francis notched first place with a time of 1:40.01 in the 200 yard freestyle to close out the meet.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — LIU men’s and women’s swimming titled Saturday’s meet, “Pink the Pool,” for breast cancer awareness.
The women split decisions in a win vs. Saint Peter’s and a narrow defeat to Saint Francis U.
“I’m extremely pleased with both of our meets today,” head coach Bobby Smith said. “We fought a hard fight down to the last race. This team looks better every week, and we plan on keeping that pattern going throughout the season.”
Overall, the Sharks outscored the Peacocks, 201-49, thanks to multiple striking final times.
They started the day by taking first in the 400-yard medley relay from the team of Maaike Broersma, Venna Andersen, Ella Johnson and Aidan Condit.
Johnson also claimed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a final time of 1:57.81.
Alycia Weber continued the success with a time of 59.54.
Andersen continues to claim impressive results in the 100-yard breaststroke and freestyle. She was the top finisher by more than two seconds.
LIU returns to action on Nov. 5 at Sacred Heart.
