In an update to a previous story, the asking price for a pair of Olympic gold swimming medals available on eBay has been dropped to $18,995.00, with the “or best offer” option still available. The original list price was for $25,000.
Ford Konno, who was a double Olympic champion in the 1500 freestyle and the 800 free relay at the 1952 Summer Olympics, is selling his gold medals, along with a slew of other swimming medals, trophies, and other memorabilia.
His history in the sport includes a politically-important race against a legendary Japanese distance swimmer after World War II that was seen as somewhat of a conciliatory race between the two countries.
Mr. Konno’s agent, identified only as “dankyboy,” reached out to us this week to explain that Konno is nearly 80 years old and is ‘interested in further funding his retirement.’

You know, we should buy it. 190 of us donate $100 and buy it and we donate it to a swimming museum. Is there such thing as Swimming Hall of Fame Museum?.
@PsychoDad, It’s in Fort Lauderdale
That medal was achieved in this swimming pool:
