5x defending MVC champs Missouri State got out to the start they wanted last night, winning both the relays to establish a firm lead heading into the first full day of competition.

The presence of their 5th year swimmers is already paying dividends for Missouri State, as the Bears not only won both relays on the night, they broke the conference record in both races as well. In the 200 medley relay, Kelly Sego led off in 25.77, Yuliya Zubina swam a 27.48 breast split, Sami Roemer clocked a 23.68 on fly, and Anna Miller, a 5th year, anchored in a blistering 21.67. In the end, MSU posted a 1:38.60, shattering the previous MVC record, which stood at 1:39.30 from 2017.

MSU was dominant in the 800 free relay. Liberty Howell, another 5th year, led the team off in 1:46.71, and was followed by Anna Lucas (1:48.45), Sami Roemer (1:51.07), and Anna Miller (1:47.86) for a 7:14.09. That performance also shattered the MVC record, which was 7:16.33, which was set at the 2020 MVC Champs.

Other notable splits include Southern Illinois freshman Celia Pulido, who led off their 200 medley relay in a very quick 24.93, leading the field of backstrokers.

Evansville set new program records in both races tonight. In the 200 medley, the Aces finished 4th with a 1:42.62, and they clocked a 7:31.74 for 5th in the 800 free, also a team record.
