Evergreen High School won its 4th straight Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) title this year, scoring 422 points at the February 2022 meet. Evergreen was the only school to clear 400 points at the meet, defeating runners-up Discovery Canyon High School by 64 points.
That is a fourth-straight title for the Evergreen girls, meaning that their senior class will graduate without ever having seen a loss at this meet.
The 3A meet includes the state’s smallest high schools.

Evergreen’s highest scorer at the meet was Finley Anderson who swam to victory in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, posting times of 56.65 and 55.68, respectively. Anderson’s swim in the 100 butterfly final marked her first time under 57 seconds in the event, improving upon her PB of 57.66 from the Denver Invitational in November 2021.

Anderson was joined on the 100 butterfly podium by Aspen’s Kayla Tehrani who swam a 57.05 for the silver medal, while Riley Mills of St. Mary’s was third in a 57.59.
Caitlin Crysel who swims for third place team St. Mary’s won the 200 IM in a 2:05.34, which was fast enough to reset the meet record in the event. The mark was previously held by Lauren Fetzko of Glenwood Springs at a 2:05.84 from back in 2017.
While she reset the meet record, Crysel was a bit shy of her 200 IM PB, which is a 2:03.92 from earlier this season. Crysel also claimed victory in the 100 breaststroke later on in the meet with a 1:05.63. That swim got her within a second of Amanda Blickensderfer‘s 2017 meet record of 1:05.26.
Another double victor at the meet was Discovery Canyon’s Julia Thomas who swept the 50 and 100 freestyles. Thomas hit a 24.28 in the former to out-touch St. Mary’s swimmer Kalie Linden (24.49). That was a near-best time for Thomas who has been as fast as a 24.14 before in the event.
In the 100 free, Thomas swam a 52.32 for the victory and was the only one in the field to crack 53 seconds. Amy Madsen of Glenwood Springs came in second with a 53.83, while 50 freestyle silver medalist swimmer Kalie Linden put up a 54.30 for third.
The other meet record that fell over the weekend came in the 200 medley relay when Evergreen posted a 1:48.32 for the win, taking out Aspen’s 1:48.62 from the 2017 Championships. Evergreen’s winning team consisted of Finley Anderson on backstroke (26.21), Riley Rains on breaststroke (30.25), Taylor Jacobson on butterfly (26.90), and Alyssa Cook on freestyle (24.96).
St. Mary’s was second in the relay with a 1:49.49 and Discovery Canyon placed third in a 1:52.31. Glenwood Springs came out on top in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.79), while St. Mary’s took gold in the 400 free relay in a 3:36.03.
