The Iowa Central swim teams concluded their regular season this past weekend by hosting the Midwest Cup.

Kyle McKenzie captured four first place finishes, with Lily Wright and Maria Goncalves each recording three victories.

Saige Knight and Leticia Dias were double-winners for the Tritons.

The meet included swimmers from Barton, The College of the Florida Keys, Southwestern Oregon and Iowa Lakes.

“I let our swimmers choose their events and I encouraged them to select at least one that was out of their comfort zone,” Iowa Central head coach Joe Plane said. “We had a lot of really great racing over the two days and the swimmers had a lot of fun, which was the goal.

“This was a good last tune-up before nationals. I’m excited to see what this team can do once they are fully rested.”

McKenzie placed first in the 200 individual medley, 200 butterfly, 100 breaststroke and 400 individual medley. Matthew Crossman won the 200 breaststroke, Sam Brennan the 50 butterfly and Pedro Aragon the 500 free.

Wright claimed her titles in the 200 individual medley, 50 breaststroke and 100 individual medley, with Goncalves touching first in the 100 backstroke, 50 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. Dias won the 200 free and 100 free, with Andrea Gallardo Perez placing first in the 200 backstroke.

The NJCAA Championships are set for March 2-5 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
