Claire Curzan lit up in the pool today during her final high school state championships, setting national high school records in the 100 back (49.61) and the 100 fly (49.24).

Curzan, who swims for Cardinal Gibbons and has committed to Stanford, not only set national high school records, but her 100 fly now stands an American Record. Her time today broke the previous record time of 49.38, set by Tennessee’s Erika Brown at the 2020 SEC Championships. Curzan now moves to #2 all-time, behind only the University of Michigan’s Maggie MacNeil.

The high school senior also set a national high school record in the 100 back. Her time of 49.61 now moves her to #3 all-time in the event, behind only Regan Smith and Beata Nelson.

Being someone who swam and coached before the internet, I will never complain about the gift of having video that doesn’t have to be bootlegged on some VHS tape (usually months after the swim occurred). However, we have to do a little better than this. This video looks like a cat filmed it with a flip phone poolside.

The angle makes her look slow

Her backstroke timing into her walls and underwaters were perfect. Circle swam a little but not too costly.

She really couldn’t wait until she was in college to beat my best time…rude
