Olympic gold medalist Maya DiRado Andrews, who announced her pregnancy back in August, has given birth to a 9 lbs and 3 oz baby boy, Charlie Alan Andrews. Dirado Andrews is married to former Stanford swimmer Robert Andrews.

Dirado Andrews posted the announcement on Instagram:

Charlie Alan Andrews joined us yesterday – 9 lbs and 3 oz of pure baby goodness

At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Dirado won gold in the 200 back and 4 x 200 free relays, along with silver in the 400 IM, and bronze in the 200 IM. She raced Katinka Hosszu in her three individual events, winning gold in the 200 back with a last-minute surge during the last 25m.

She was also a 2 x NCAA champion during her time in Stanford (200/400 IM in 2014). DiRado Andrews graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in management science and engineering.

Dirado Andrews is currently pursuing master’s degrees in business administration at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a master’s degree in environment and resources at the Stanford School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences.

She is also currently serving her second term on the USA Swimming Board of Directors as an athlete representative.

It’s not the time to set anything aside except ignorance. I’m so impressed but not surprised that Maya spoke out against Michael Andrew. The entire swimming community should have done so. I’ll never understand why he was allowed in the relay pool. Just too darn bad the Beijing policies for American athletes weren’t in place by Tokyo.

this is the first time dirado has been referred to by her married name on swimswam, at least since the article about her getting married (and she’s been in numerous articles post rio). Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I’m convinced that the reporter added that name in to drive up engagement rates, given her critisism of MA. I will die on this hill
