Two Turkish Records broken on third day of Mediterranean Games

The Turkish fans had a lot to cheer about on the third day of the Mediterranean Games. There were two Turkish records broken the first by Kemal Arda Gurdal who finished second in the 100 freestyle posting a time of 49.41 breaking his own record of 49.64 which he set in 2012. The second record was broken by Pilara Buse Gunaydin who placed third in the 100 breaststroke finishing in a time of 2:28.20 beating her own national mark of 2:29.20 set in 2012.

The biggest name in the competition, Olympic champion Ous Mellouli collected his first win of the meet in the 400 IM posting a time of 4:15.15 which would currently rank him 13th in the world. He was followed by Italian Federico Turrini who finished second recording a time of 4:19.96, while Mellouli’s Tunisian teammate Taki Mrabet finished third in a time of 4:22.52.

Sunday was also the the first day of competition for the Para-Swimming events with Sarai Gascon Moreno of Spain taking the S10 women’s 100 freestyle in a time of 1:03.94. She was followed by Esther Morales Fernandez who finished second in a time of 1:05.50 and Anaelle Roulet of France who finished third posting a time of 1:06.36.

In the men’s S10 100 freestyle David Julian Levecq Vives of Spain won the event in a time of 55.98. He was followed by Simone Ciulli of Italy who finished second recording a time of 57.14 and Jose A Maria Garcia of Spain who finished third in a time of 57.67.

By the end of the evening the Italians continued to dominate the medal count with a total of 33 medals with 12 of those being gold.

Women’s 100 freestyle – Theodora Drakou (GRE) – 55.63

Men’s 100 freestyle – Luca Leonardi (ITA) – 48.84

Women’s 200 breaststroke – Jessica Vall Montero (ESP) – 2:27.22

Men’s 200 breaststroke – Panagiotis Samilidis (GRE) – 2:12.31

Women’s 400 IM – Anja Klinar (SLO) – 4:40.49

Women’s 800 freestyle – Martina De Memme (ITA) – 8:33.17
