FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Providence College this afternoon with the women posting a 206-91 victory and the men registering a 167-129 win. Alison Sposili and Joseph Stewart both won three events during the meet.

The men’s meet was highlighted by Stewart’s wins in the 800 free (8:31.18), the 200 free (1:56.33), and the 400 free (4:07.73). He also established a school record with his 800 meter free swim. Ed Hunt was also a multiple winner with his performances in the 200 fly (2:08.54) and the 200 IM (2:08.87).

Two Fairfield divers also collected first-place results with Lukas Stanton gaining the top spot in the 1 meter with 237.60 points and Dillon O’Connor garnering the leader spot in the 3 meter with 247.43 points.

Evan Fair picked up another win on the season with his run in the 200 back (2:12.11) while Jeff Vlass registered the victory in the 200 breast (2:27.14).
The 200 medley relay team garnered the top spot with a time of 1:47.71 behind the efforts of Peter GoriChris Ford, Fair, and Alex Belfer.

The women’s day started with divers Erin Wind and Alexis Gaulin winning the 1 meter and 3 meter dives, respectively. Wind earned 199.35 points while Gaulin secured 231.29 points for the Stags.

The women garnered first-place swims from both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. Eleonore Rembert, Sposili, Erini Pappas, and Amelia Sicignano combined for the 200 medley relay, finishing the race in 2:02.07. Sydney Scalise, Olivia Thompson, Pappas, and Sicignano comprised the 400 free relay and recorded a winning time of 4:01.89.

Sposili took home victories in the 100 breast (1:17.34), the 200 breast (2:43.97), and the 200 IM (2:28.50) to lead all Stags. Scalise was a double winner with her first-place performances in the 200 free (2:08.92) and the 100 free (59.72). Pappas also scored the top spot twice, touching the wall in 2:21.92 in the 200 fly and 2:18.72 in the 200 back.

Lily Barker was a first-place winner in the 800 free, running the course in 9:33.20. Rembert paced the field in the 100 back with her time of 1:04.83. Shannon Feeley was the top finisher in the 400 free, taking a time of 4:38.26.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will return to action with a home dual meet against Marist College on Saturday, November 6. The diving events will begin at 11 am with the swimming events commencing at 1 pm.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College swimming and diving programs were in the pool competing for a second-straight day, following up a trip to Iona on Friday with a visit to Fairfield on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Will Layden had another solid performance for the Friars on the men’s side. He took first-place finishes in the 50-meter free style (23.28) and 100-meter freestyle events (52.32). He also anchored the winning squad in the men’s 400-meter freestyle relay (3:31.77), joining teammates McGovern BrownAlex Beauchene and Aidan Hughes.

Brown paced the field in the men’s 100-meter backstroke with a finishing time of 59.47. Kevin Hood also joined the list of individual winners, taking the 100-meter breaststroke (1:05.87). Ryan Sharp added another Friar victory in the 100-meter butterfly, topping the field in 58.89.

Sally Alrutz claimed a victory in the women’s 100-meter butterfly, with a time of 1:07.05. In an exciting finish, she edged out Maggie O’Donnell of Fairfield who touched the wall in 1:07.13. Alrutz found herself in the second-place position in two other individual events, including the 100-meter backstroke (1:06.26) and the 200-meter backstroke (2:23.57).

Taylor Loud also came out on top for the Providence women’s team in a tightly contested 50-meter freestyle (27.74), touching the wall just one one-hundredth of a second ahead of Fairfield’s second-place finisher (27.75).

The Friars will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 against Boston University. The meet will take place at Taylor Natatorium in Providence, R.I. The day will kick off with diving at 11:00 a.m., with the swim events beginning at 1:00 p.m.
