Delbarton School junior Rob Alexy has announced his intention to swim and study at the University of California, Berkeley beginning in the fall of 2023. He will join his brother Jack Alexy, currently a freshman on the Golden Bears’ roster. The brothers, who are both 6’7”, will overlap two years.

Alexy lives in Mendham, New Jersey and swims year-round with the Greater Somerset County YMCA. He specializes in the short to middle end of the freestyle range, with Summer Juniors cuts in the 50/100 free and Winter Juniors cuts in the 200/500 free.

Alexy finaled in all four distances at the 2021 Middle Atlantic LSC Virtual Swimming Festival in April, picking up a PB in the 500 free. This summer, he updated his LCM times in the 50 free (23.82) and 400 free (4:12.19) at the YMCA Long Course Festival where he placed 3rd in the 50, 2nd in the 100 free, 4th in the 200 free, and 11th in the 400. He wrapped up long course season at Speedo Summer Championships-East with PB in the 100 free (51.86), 200 free (1:55.76), and 100 back (1:02.43). He finaled in the 50 free (22nd), 100 free (19th), and 200 free (31st).
Alexy will join a sprint group at Cal that includes his brother Jack, Bjorn Seeliger, and Matthew Jensen, all of whom will still be there when he arrives in the fall of 2023.

I went to the Cal-Stanford Triple Distance Meet yesterday (Nov 5) in Berkeley. As a Cal fan, I was impressed by the Stanford squad and with the incoming swimmers 2022, they are going to move up in the top 10 rankings. Cal’s team should stay in the top 5 rankings, but with all the swimmers who are using a 5th year and portal transfers, it’s hard to rank top teams right now.
One Cal new frosh Gabriel Jett really was an eye opener as he had to swim the 200/500/1000 frees which he won all three events with times (if I recall correctly) 1:38/ 4:23/ and 9:13 which are pretty good times for early seaaon.
Why is his height the headline? His times are OK, but the article seems to imply his height makes him a future star and that isn’t always the case…Caleb is 6’3″ and Michael Phelps is 6’4″

Bigger picture: who benefits from moving recruiting up to junior year, basically off sophomore times? These kids are still growing into their bodies – 2+ years is a long time for a 15-16 year old

Cal is recruiting really, really well this cycle. Germonprez #3 sure doesn’t hurt, but it will be interesting to see if Texas can keep pace. I’m sorry, as much as people hate it, it sure looks like its going to be Cal and Texas dominating for at least the near future.
Nah, I gotta say NC State will rise and potentially join that duo as well as Stanford should their current recruits develop well.
Not seeing Stanford. Maybe NC St. Unlike the second tier powers who have some singularly great classes, Cal and Texas, year after year, get large quantities of greatness. And though there are no guarantees in life or swimming, if you can get a kid like Germonprez who is going 1:45 2im at 16, you’ve got pretty good odds the guy will score big at Nc’s. You put multiple guys like that on a team and develop them while also bringing along the non superstars and moving the toward greatness, you are looking at Texas and Cal for the last 10 years.
So far UVA’s men have had a better class than Stanford.
Sprinting is a huge part of success in NCAAs so yeah UVA but Stanford has a nice stable of swimmers right now most coaches wish they had that
