Breaststroke and IMer Landon Alarcon Commits to Utah

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Landon Alarcon from Georgetown, Texas has announced his commitment to swim and study at the University of Utah beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I chose the University of Utah because of the great team atmosphere, the great coaches, and the amazing facilities. I can’t wait to be a part of the Utah program! Go Utes!”

Alarcon swims for Nitro Swimming out of Cedar Park, Texas. His older brother, Greyson Alarcon, swims at Louisville and is entering his junior year. In March 2021 at the North Texas Lone Star Invitational, he earned best times in the 200 freestyle (1:45.38) and 100 backstroke (53.69).

This summer, he competed at the Austin Sectional meet. There, he earned long course best times in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.87), 200 breaststroke (2:27.34), 100 butterfly (58.84), and 200 IM (2:10.26). His 200 breaststroke earned him a 16th-place finish, his 100 breaststroke was a 19th-place finish, and his 200 IM was a 20th-place finish.

Alarcon will begin his senior year this fall at Georgetown High School. He is a 3x Texas 5A (small schools) State Champion, 2x 5A State bronze medalist, and 2x 5A State record holder. Most of those finishes came from relays. In February 2021, he finished third in the 200 IM and finished 8th in the 100 breaststroke at the 5A state meet.

His best short course times are:

  • 100 breaststroke: 57.26
  • 200 breaststroke: 2:05.57
  • 200 IM: 1:51.59
  • 400 IM: 4:00.48
  • 100 butterfly: 51.59

The University of Utah is a public university located in Salt Lake City. The school is a member of the Pac-12 Conference.

At the 2021 Pac-12 Championships, the Utah men finished fourth out of five teams. Based on his best times, Alarcon has the potential to score in the 400 IM as it took a time of 4:02.40 to make it back in the scoring ‘B’ final. It took a time of 55.85 in the 100 breaststroke, 2:01.80 in the 200 breaststroke, and 1:46.02 in the 200 IM to make it back in the ‘B’ final. (Note: The Pac-12 runs a non-scoring ‘C’ final.) His best times would have ranked him fifth in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 200 breaststroke, 200 IM, and 400 IM on the Utah roster during the 2020-2021 season.

Alarcon will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Ike Harms, Brandon Miller, Owen Watkins, Jackson Kehler, and Davis Stachelek.
