Toussaint Takes Down Own Dutch 100 Back National Record – 58.74

EINDHOVEN QUALIFICATION MEET (NED)

After establishing a new European Record yesterday in the women’s 50m backstroke, Dutch ace Kira Toussaint did anything but rest on her laurels at this Eindhoven Qualification Meet.

Racing in the final prelims session of this 3-day affair, 26-year-old Toussaint busted out a new national record in the 100m backstroke, touching in a lifetime best of 58.74.

Opening in 28.51 and bringing it home in 30.23, Toussaint’s time this morning overtook her own previous Dutch national record and lifetime best of 58.91. That outing was posted at the Rotterdam Qualification Meet last December to make the Olympic squad.

In that previous big-time swim, Toussaint’s splits included 29.01/29.90 showing how the former Tennessee Vol attacked this morning’s race with more speed on the front end.

With the final set to take place in a few hours, Toussaint remains ranked as the world’s #3 performer this season.

The thing that I absolutely love about her success is the fact that her mother is a double Olympic medalist in the backstroke from the 1984 Olympics! Jolanda de Rover was bronze in the 100 back and gold in the 200 back. Really really strong pedigree!
