Nyls Korstanje Shaves .01 Off 50 Fly Dutch Record In Eindhoven Prelims

EINDHOVEN QUALIFICATION MEET (NED)

NC State Wolfpack team member Nyls Korstanje just put up the fastest 50m fly time of his life in Eindhoven.

Competing on the final day of events here at this Olympic Qualification Meet, the 22-year-old flew to the wall in a new Dutch national record of 23.19 to snag the top seed out of the prelims. In doing so, Korstanje overtook his own previous national record of 23.20 he produced just last month.

With the final yet to go here in Eindhoven, Korstanje’s 23.19 keeps the Dutchman ranked 5th in the world this season.

This race comes after Korstanje was within .01 of individual Olympic qualification in the men’s 100m fly. Two days ago, registering the fastest time of his career, Korstanje split 23.93/28.0 to ultimately stop the clock in 51.93 and win the 100m fly gold. This marked his first time ever under 52 seconds, but he needed just a fingernail more to nab the Olympic-qualifying time of 51.92. He’ll still have a chance at Olympic qualification at this summer’s European Championships.
