EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 14, 2021) – Mount St. Mary’s freshman Emily Van Kerckhove was spectacular in the team’s contest with La Salle, but the squad is still left searching for the first win after two defeats Sunday. The Mountaineers lost 18-8 to the Explorers and 16-4 to Villanova.
Van Kerckhove was the main offensive weapon, scoring or assisting on seven of eight goals. The first-year Ohioan added four drawn exclusions and a steal. Lauryn Thomas also enjoyed a multi-goal game with two successful shots.
The Mount forced many power plays in the opening foray, sending 15 Explorers to the penalty area. Five of the team’s eight goals came on the 6 vs. 5.
Rebekka Williams fended out 17 shots in the opener and 11 in the nightcap. Thomas had a second multi-goal game with two more against the Wildcats. As a team, the Mount registered 11 steals in the second contest, led by Lily Pullen with four.
Mount St. Mary’s falls to 0-7 this year with the losses. Their attention now shifts to weekends at Bucknell and Saint Francis U, where besides the hosts the Mount will play Michigan twice.
