Toussaint Tears Up Dutch Record In 100 Back In Kazan Heats

FINA WORLD CUP SERIES – KAZAN

25-year-old Kira Toussaint keeps ripping apart her own Dutch national records in the women’s 50m and 100m backstroke while competing on this FINA World Cup circuit. This morning in Kazan, Toussaint produced a heats 100m back swim of 59.14, easily topping the women’s field to land lane 4 for tonight, but also firing off the fastest time of her career.

Last week in Berlin, Toussaint produced a personal best and new Dutch national record-setting effort of 59.46, with splits of 28.66/30.80 comprising that performance.

Here in Kazan this morning in the heats, Toussaint found an entirely different gear to stop the clock at a big-time 59.14, dropping .32 from that Berlin mark to lower her record even further. Toussaint is now approaching the 59-second threshold, with her outing this morning positioning the former Tennessee Vol just outside the top 25 performers ever in the event.

Splits for Toussaint’s race this morning include 28.68/30.46, showing how she crushed the back half to put up that lifetime best compared to her Berlin swim.

We’ll see what Toussaint has left in the tank as finals begin shortly here in Kazan.

Toussaint made very good swim (943) and was just a little bit short to lead bonus point competition (Campbell 949). Unfortunately for Hosszu and lucky for Toussaint the Smith’s world record isn’t counted yet at FINA points calculations. Hosszu has to swim 200IM at 2:08.3 to stay in contest. She was 2:07.0 at WC in July. So it is in her range. Let’s see if “Iron Lady” still have this “iron” strength.
In 400IM the quality of the swim should be 4:30.9
