No one scratched out of the semi-final heats or the finals on Day One at 2019 FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest. Two championship records were broken in heats on Tuesday morning. Gabor Zombori of Hungary dropped a huge lifetime best of 3:46.97 in the 400 free to set the tone from the very first event. That took down the meet record of 3:47.12 set by Mack Horton of Australia at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Dubai. Two events later, Italy’s Thomas Ceccon went 54.07 in the 100 breast to erase Hugo Gonzalez of Spain’s 54.27 set in 2017 at Indianapolis.

Tuesday evening’s session will feature the finals of the men’s 400 free and women’s 400 IM as well as the men’s 4×100 free and the women’s 4×200 free. There will also be semi-final heats of the women’s 50 breast, men’s 100 back, men’s 100 breast, and women’s 100 back.

Competition begins at 5:30 p.m. local time in Budapest (11:30 EDT / 8:30 PDT).
