American Andrew Wilson sliced .02 off of his previous personal best in the men’s 100m breast on night 1 of the Singapore stop of the 2019 FINA World Cup.
Splitting 27.81/31.12, Wilson produced a winning effort of 58.93, a time that overtook his previous personal best of 58.95 he produced just weeks ago in Gwangju.
Wilson logged that sub-59 second outing in the semi-finals of the men’s 100m breaststroke at the World Championships but ultimately hit the wall in 59.11 in the final to finish off the podium in 6th place. His semi time, however, made Wilson just the 4th American ever to go under 59 in the sprint event.
Here at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in Singapore, Wilson casually touched in a time of 1:00.21 to lead the 100m breast prelims before crushing his gold medal-worthy swim of 58.93.
Wilson remains the 3rd fastest American performer ever in the 100m breaststroke and also remains the 15th fastest performer ever in the world.

I bet if you told high school senior AW that he’d be America’s best 100 breast 7 years later, he might’ve not believed you
We still don’t have a full video of the 200 breast world record and I’m so dissapointed
Check Dailymotion! Also, someone posted here a russian website with all races from Worlds
Does anyone else notice a “Peaty” effect in Wilson’s stroke, especially the last 15 meters? It looks like he is rising higher out of the water and increasing turnover….more so than he used to do….
So FINA thinks that showing 1/5 of swimming races on their YouTube channel is the way to attract general audiences while not annoying the fans?
Which planet are those FINA morons living on?
One where they send hitman to take out their rivals and take all of the money other swimming federations send them and put it in their own pocket, instead of giving it to the athletes…
The breaststroke is a stroke that is best used for distance swimming. Perhaps the FINA thought this was a distance race when they decided to show only half the race.
