Commonwealth Games Breaststroker Niamh Robinson Commits to LSU

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Niamh Robinson of Darwen, England has announced her commitment to Louisiana State University’s class of 2023. She will thus join Emily Pye, Hayley Montague, Jolee Liles, Katarina Milutinovic, Olivia Taylor, and Summer Stanfield in Baton Rouge in the fall of 2019.

Robinson swims year-round at Mount Kelly Swimming and specializes in breaststroke. She has represented the Isle of Mann at the Commonwealth Games since she was 14, first appearing on Team IOM in Glasgow in 2014 (where she made semi-finals in the 50 breast). Since then, she has competed at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia. Robinson also represented Great Britain at the 2015 Energy Standard meet in Italy. There, she won a silver medal in the 50m breast and bronze medals in the 100m breast and 200m IM. Robinson’s mother is Manx and swam for the Isle of Mann at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand.

Robinson recently swam at the 2018 Swim England Winter Championships, taking on the 50/100/200 breast and 100/200 IM. She finaled in the 50 breast and both IMs and snagged a PB in the 200 SCM breast with the third-fastest time out of heats (2:24.97). Her top times would have scored at 2018 SEC Championships in the B final of the 200 breast and the C final of the 100 breast.

The Tigers will welcome Robinson’s arrival in the fall, as they will lose their top breaststroker (Summer Spradley) to graduation this spring. Robinson will join a breaststroke group which includes freshman Allie McDaid and juniors Olivia Paskulin and Nicole Rozier.

Top SCM times:

  • 100 breast – 1:08.37 (1:01.59)
  • 200 breast – 2:24.97 (2:10.60)
  • 200 IM – 2:12.86 (1:59.69)
  • 400 IM – 4:52.88 (4:23.85)
