ECU Sweeps Men’s AAC Awards, UConn Takes Home Women’s Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving honors for the week ending Oct. 28.

Male Swimmer of the Week

Marek Osina * Fr. * ECU

Osina continues to shine in his rookie season, earning his second conference weekly accolade after finishing first place in all four events he competed in. Marek won the 200 fly (1:52.66), 200 back (1:50.28) and 400 IM (3:59.78) to help the Pirates to a second-straight dual meet victory over UNC-Wilmington. The freshman is 9-0 in individual events this year. He also swam the leadoff leg for ECU’s first-place 200 medley relay team. His 400 IM time is the fastest swam in The American this season.

Female Swimmer of the Week

Jackie Van Lew * Sr. * UConn

Van Lew helped the Huskies dominate the freestyle events, winning the 100 (52.15) and 200 (1:52.72) in a 158-142 victory at Army West Point on Saturday afternoon. She also swam the first leg of the 400 freestyle relay with a top-eight conference 100 freestyle time of 51.96.

Male Diver of the Week

Luke Stivers * Fr. * ECU

Stivers won the one-meter dive with a score of 289.70 to help the Pirates sweep the men’s diving events. He earned his second podium finish of the day with a score of 286.10 in the three-meter dive.
