Penn State sophomore Jack Crow (Bethesda, Md.) edged out classmate Hector Garcia Boissier (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain) by 1.05 points to win the 3-meter springboard on the men’s side and senior Mackenzie Cornell (Germantown, Md.) once again led the Nittany Lion women with a runner-up finish in the 1-meter, as the Lions concluded the Penn State Zone A Diving Invitational Sunday afternoon in McCoy Natatorium,

Garcia held a sizeable lead after the preliminaries with a score of 391.95 to Crow’s second-place 352.00, but a miss by Garcia on his third finals dive and a finals improvement by Crow allowed him to take first 368.20 to 367.15. Junior Connor Scanlon (Laurel, Md.) placed third at 322.45 to give Penn State a 1-2-3 sweep.

Cornell was also unable to hold on to a preliminaries lead, as her score of 286.90 was good enough to lead after the first six dives, but her effort of 284.35 in the finals was not. Drexel’s Madison Kramer, who was the runner-up in the 3-meter Saturday, improved nearly 30 points in the finals to place first. Freshman Elaina Faerber (Potomac, Md.) was third at 253.35 after ranking second at 267.00 in the prelims, and classmate Christina Crowell (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) was fourth at 249.55.

Scoring started over in the finals and there was no team scoring.

Garcia and Cornell won the men’s 1-meter and women’s 3-meter, respectively, Saturday to open the meet. Garcia and Cornell led from the preliminaries through the finals, and Penn State placed three in the top eight for finals on the men’s and women’s sides.

Garcia was consistent, totaling 396.95 on his first six dives in the preliminaries and 394.75 in the finals. Scanlon and Crow placed third (291.15) and fourth (281.45), respectively, with their top scores of the day coming in the finals. Drexel’s Dylan Yurasits was second with a finals score of 327.20.
