The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team welcomed the St. Bonaventure Bonnies to Alumni Arena Natatorium on Friday for a non-conference match up. The Bulls dominated in the pool and the diving well, placing first in various events and ending with overall scores of 164-73 for the men and 167-74 for the women.

Four freshmen swam to first place finishes for the Bulls at Friday’s competition: Katelyn Burns in the 200 Free with a time of 1:55.62, Grace Baumer in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:05.40, Luther Gordon in the 100 Breast with a time of 57.01, and Andrea Ernst in the 50 Free and 100 Free with times of 23.61 and 52.43, respectively.

The women’s 400 Medley Relay team consisting of Julia Box, Anna Vitolins, Saoirse Palu-Benson, and Megan Burns etched their names in the All-Time Top-Ten Performances with a time of 3:49.65 and a first place finish. Kerry Giovanniello placed first for the Bulls in the 1000 Free, clocking in at 10:39.05. The Bulls took first place in the 100 Fly, 500 Free, 400 Free Relay, and the 200 IM as well. Box clocked in at 55.62 in the Fly, Palu-Benson clocked in at 5:09.64 in the 500 Free, and the relay team of Box, Maddy Jacumski, M. Burns, and Claudia Casale clocked in at 3:37.40 in the 400 Free Relay. Megan Burns competed in the 200 IM, taking first place with a time of 2:06.13. She proved that she is a powerful force during a Free-Sprint when she brought it home in the that 50-yard portion of the event.

The women also had a stellar performance in the diving well; taking first and second on both the one- and three-meter dives. Abbey Croce claimed first on both dives with scores of 265.68 (one-meter) and 266.55 (three-meter). Mackenzie Moss claimed second on both dives with scores of 260.25 (one-meter) and 264.60 (three-meter). Valerie Lortie also placed third on the three-meter dive with a score of 244.43.

The men placed first in ten different events against the Bonnies. The 400 Medley Relay team of Hudson Carroll, Itai De La Vega, Martin Leigh, and Reid Zyniecki kicked off the men’s multiple first place finishes with a time of 3:24.14 in the event. Carroll also took first in the 100 Free with a time of 46.84. De La Vega had two more first place finishes: one individual and one relay. He took first in the 50 Free with a time of 21.49; and took first alongside teammate Joseph Puglessi, Leigh, and Miller in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:06.64. Scott Huang put his name into the All-Time Top-Ten Performance list with a time of 9:35.98 and a first place finish in the 1000 Free. Huang also placed first in the 100 Back with a time of 50.59. Reid Zyniecki was also a multiple first place finisher; clocking in at 1:42.34 in the 200 Free and 4:3.78 in the 500 Free. Tudor Puszet took first in the 100 Fly with a time of 51.52.

The men took first through third on both dives as well. Nick Rodriguez posted a score of 328.95 on the one-meter for first; and 302.70 on the three-meter for third. Kristian Santos had a score of 317.03 on the one-meter for second; and 337.58 on the three-meter for first. Dan Roche took third on the one-meter and second on the three-meter with scores of 253.28 and 322.28, respectively.

The Bulls are back in their home pool for a match-up against Eastern Michigan on Saturday, January 28th. This meet will be celebrating both the seniors and the Blue-and-White Fund donors.

The meet is set to begin at 1:00pm, senior celebrations will begin at 12:40pm.
