Hailing from southern Illinois, Barney is a breaststroker/IM’er from Delta Aquatics. She is a senior at Plainfield North High School.

Top Times

  • 100 breast – 1:05.98
  • 200 breast – 2:32.47
  • 200 IM – 2:09.00
  • 100 back – 59.11

Barney dropped almost three full seconds in one year in her 100 breast.

Bender is a member of Star Swimming in Buffalo, NY, while she attends Hamburg High School.

Top Times

  • 100 back – 59.85
  • 200 back – 2:07.29
  • 200 IM – 2:10.94
  • 400 IM – 4:40.44

WHERE THEY FIT IN

Both Barney and Bender will add immediate depth to the Cleveland State Roster. Barney has the speed to make it to the B final of the 100 breast, and is nearly quick enough to B final in the 200 IM at the Horizon League Championships. Meanwhile, Bender has the speed to make it to the 200 back B final and is within striking distance of the 400 IM B final.

In terms of their positions on the team in their best events, Barney would’ve been CSU’s #2 200 IMer and 100 breaststroker last season, while Bender would’ve been their #2 200 backstroker and #5 400 IMer.
