College of Saint Benedict Adds 23 to 2016-17 Roster

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The deadline has passed for high school seniors to make their decisions on where to continue their academic and athletic careers in college, and College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving coach Dan Eckberg announced Monday that he will add 23 names to the Blazers’ roster in 2016-17.

“The recruiting class of 2016 is one of the strongest and deepest classes in recent CSB swimming and diving history,” Eckberg said. “The goal was to find talented student-athletes who were highly committed to achieving excellence in the classroom and in the pool. These first years will be in every event for us and will be strong contributors from day one.

“Each of them bring their own specialties, which is why we worked hard to get them to CSB, because we knew that every one of them would make our program better through their hard work and commitment. We didn’t necessarily intend to have this large of a class, we just happened to be blessed to find a good number of high quality young women to bring to our team.”

Of the 23 incoming first years, 15 would have scored points for CSB at the 2015-16 MIAC Championships based on their best times or marks in high school. Each swimming and diving team is allotted 18 athletes on their MIAC Championship roster.

“We will have individuals who could step in and score immediately for us, but we strongly believe that each of our incoming first-years will make large strides here at CSB,” Eckberg said.
