Novi Sturgeons’ Ellyse Conn has given her verbal commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers for next fall. At the Michigan Division 1 HS State Champs last year, Conn touched 3rd in the 500 free, 5th in the 200 IM, and had the fastest split on Mercy Catholic’s runner-up 400 free relay (52.33).

Conn’s Top Times

  • 500 free – 4:57.22
  • 1000 free – 10:12.54
  • 100 back – 57.90
  • 200 back – 2:04.57
  • 100 fly – 56.64
  • 200 IM – 2:05.91
  • 400 IM – 4:26.36

Conn has a wide array of strengths, and could end up focusing on anything from distance free to 200s of stroke to IM. Her 2:20.55 in the 200m back is her sole Winter Juniors cut, however.

While Conn isn’t quite ready to contribute at the B1G Champs level, she joins an IU program that has rich backstroke history in recent years. The Hoosiers have legitimate Big Ten scorers in their ranks in the distance free and IM events this year as well, and Conn will likely be able to find the right group to train with when she gets to campus.

Conn joins breaststrokers Hope Hayward and Lydia Welty, Nevada state champion Shelby Koontz, and 14-time Wisconsin age group state record holder Cassy Jernberg for IU’s class of 2020.
