Day 4 of the British Summer Nationals was another chance for Britain’s age-group swimmers to showcase their talents.

Tamzin Pugh (Ellesmere College) won gold in the 15yrs Girls 200m Butterfly in 2.14.80, to complete her hat-trick of Gold’s in the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly events at this meet. Tamzin showed both strength and tenacity to lead the event from just past the half-way mark, making her break early and then holding off the opposition by a body length for the remaining 100m. Tamzin also added to her trophy cabinet further, taking out the Girls 15yrs 200m Backstroke later in the evening.

Another strong performer over the 200m distance on the 4th day of competition was Jessica Fullalove (City of Manchester), who won the Women’s 19yrs+ 200m Backstroke in a new personal best time of 2.10.01.

It was an exciting night for sprinter Miles Munro who posted his first sub-50 100m Freestyle (49.65) clinching the Gold in the Men’s 19yrs+ 100m Freestyle final in a very tight race. At the turn it was anyone’s to win, with 6 swimmers within 1 sec of one-another, but Miles swum an outstanding final 15m to grab the win.

The fast and furious 50m Breaststroke events bought the crowd to their feet. Imogen Clark (Derventio) won Gold in the 16yrs Girls final in 31.04 and in doing so set a new British Age Group record. Imogen’s Derventio team-mate Sarah Vasey caused an upset winning Gold in the Women’s 19yrs+ 50m Breaststroke ahead of Commonwealth Bronze Medallist Corrie Scott (University of Edinburgh) in 31.02.

In the final relays of the evening (Women’s 800m Freestyle) it was Stockport Metro all the way in the 14 – 16yr age group. The girls lead from start-to finish and dominated the event despite a late rally by City of Leed’s anchor Georgia Coates. In the Girls 17 & Over event the home-pool advantage paid dividends for City of Sheffield who secured the Gold in 8.13.88.

Follow the action from Ponds Forge, Sheffield as the British Summer Nationals continues tomorrow.
