Kelsi Worrell helped the Louisville Cardinals qualify second for tonight’s finals of the 400 medley relay at the 2015 NCAA DI championships.
We originally found results that showed Dana Vollmer had been 49.42 at the 2007 NCAA Championships in the 400 medley realy, but we later found a touchpad error. The printed results do not have the 200 split recorded. The results we found were shifted over and we believed we were looking at the 200 and 300 splits. As it turns out, we were actually looking at the 250 and 350 splits. Sorry for the confusion.
Worrell has been inching closer to the American record in the 100 butterfly all season, and her performance this morning indicates that she is on track to break Coughlin’s record this weekend. In the relay today, she split 49.56 on the butterfly leg, she had the fastest split of the day in the 200 free relay at 21.04, and she dropped .31 in her individual 50 to qualify fourth.
Her 49.56 relay split is now the fastest split in history. She took her first 50 out in 22.93 and brought it back in 26.63 to finish with a 49.56.

I could be wrong, but I didn’t remember Vollmer going a 49. I don’t remember anyone doing that. I just checked the splits, and here’s what I found. Unfortunately, because of some pad error, the split was never given. Hardy was 59.3 individually the next day. If she did that on the relay, and I’m assuming she was at least a 59.3, that would put Vollmer at around a 49.9. My guess is that Hardy was faster than a 59.3 causing Vollmer to be slower than a 49.9.
Once again, I could be wrong, maybe someone has more info than I do, but I was surprised to her that Vollmer was 49.4 in 2007.
