Japanese star Kousuke Hagino highlighted the second and final night of competition of the World Cup stop in Tokyo. Hagino broke both the World Cup and Asian records in the men’s 200 IM. He took the event posting a time of 1:51.27 breaking his own records of 1:51.50 which he set last year in the same competition in Tokyo.
He also takes the top position in the world rankings beating South African Chad le Clos’s previous best of 1:51.56 which he posted in Dubai.
- Hagino 2014 – 24.22/52.33 (28.11)/1:24.83 (32.50)/1:51.27 (26.44)
- Hagino 2013 – 24.55/52.05 (27.50)/1:24.59 (32.54)/1:51.50 (26.91)
Daiya Seto finished second in the event posting a season’s best of 1:52.55, beating the 1:54.21 which he posted in Beijing.
Hiromasa Fujimori collected the bronze finishing in a time of 1:55.02.

What exactly do you mean, Stoyle?
We all know that Hagino’s 200IM has improved this year. I think this is a reasonable progression to make given his LC gains. His freestyle has also definitely improved – especially looking at the way he split hos 400IM and 200 freestyle at the Asian Games. I look forward to seeing Hagino deliver some strong performances at SC worlds.
Nah, he was talking about the splits reported. It had said that his old freestyle split was a 25.91 instead of 26.91, I think. It’s since been fixed.
Methinks something is fishy with those splits……
