Wolfpack Swimmer Joe Rhyne recipient of the Ronnie Shavlik Award of Merit

Former NC State swimmer Joe Rhyne was named the recipient of the Ronnie Shavlik Award of Merit Friday evening at the Evening of Stars on Campus ceremony held by the Wolfpack Club at Prestonwood Country Club.

Rhyne, who competed under the guidance of the legendary Don Easterling, captured the 1978 ACC title in the 200 butterfly. In addition, he was part of four ACC Championship teams during his career from 1977-81.

Today, Rhyne is a successful investment broker and has given back generously to the swimming & diving program in honor of a coach who taught him the value of hard work and leadership. As a 32-year member of the Wolfpack Club, he has supported the Easterling Endowment, a new swimming scoreboard and the lobby renovation at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center.

The Ronnie Shavlik Award of Merit is the highest honor a former NC State student-athlete or member of the athletic staff is eligible to receive from the Wolfpack Club. The award is named for former Wolfpack basketball great Ronnie Shavlik and is given to the figure who displays leadership and service, as well as support for NC State Athletics.
