History is repeating itself in Dubai on the second leg of the 2014 FINA World Cup series. Through three sessions, Katinka Hosszu’s pattern of World Records has continued, as she’s now broken a total of 5 in 6 days.
Just like in Doha last week, Hosszu’s Dubai trip started off with a record in the 200 IM final, and has continued now to a record-breaking performance in the 100 IM prelims on Monday morning. There she swam a 56.86 to test the boundaries of the $10,000 World Record bonuses. That broke her old record of 57.25.
Hosszu opened in a 26.32 and finished in 30.54 – with the half-second drop coming almost exclusively on the back-half of the race.
The Hungarian 25-year old now has the six fastest times in the history of this event, with the three best swims ever having come in the last week.
Next up, Hosszu will swim in the timed final of the women’s 400 IM as the top seed. In that longest of the IM races in Doha, she was just barely under the World Record, but given her improvements so far at this meet, it’s not a stretch to imagine that she’ll get under it again.
With the number of records that she’s broken through the first two meets, Hosszu has almost already locked up the World Cup title for this year, even with 5 more meets remaining in this year’s series.
