Breaststroke Prodigy Shin Ohashi Among Those Entered At This Week’s JPN Championships

102nd JAPAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

A veritable ‘who’s who’ of Japanese elite swimming is headed to the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, as the nation’s 102nd swimming championships are slated to begin tomorrow, Thursday, June 4th.

While Japan’s Asian Games roster has already been solidified, it’s possible that these four-day championship may add more names to the Pan Pacific Championships roster, as the federation has deemed it a secondary qualification opportunity.

Multiple Olympic medalists are expected to compete, including Daiya Seto, Tomoyuki Matsushita, Tomoru Honda and Satomi Suzuki.

World Junior record holder in the boys’ 100m and 200m breaststroke, Shin Ohashi, is listed among the entrants, as is the World Junior record holder in the boys’ 200m and 400m IM events, Yumeki Kojima.

Add in the likes of World Championships medalists Tatsuya Murasa and Ichika Kajimoto, along with talents to the tune of Rikako Ikee and Mizuki Hirai and we’re in store for some potentially electrifying results when all is said and done.

Of note, recently-suspended 50m fly national record holder Shoon Mitsunaga is entered in the competition.
