Gavin Tran (2026) Changes Commitment from Navy to IU-Indianapolis

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Hummelstown, Pennsylvania’s Gavin Tran has announced his commitment to swim and study at Indiana University Indianapolis, also known as IU-Indy, beginning in the fall. He had originally committed to Navy. Tran wrote on social media about his decision:

“I’m beyond grateful and excited to officially announce my commitment to Indiana University Indianapolis to continue my academic and swimming career at the Division 1 level. This past year tested me in ways I never expected, and there were a lot of moments where I felt lost, overwhelmed, and unsure of what was next for me. But through every setback and every difficult moment, I kept pushing forward, and I’m incredibly thankful to have this opportunity in front of me now. I want to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for standing by me, believing in me, and helping me keep going even during the hardest times. None of this would’ve been possible without all of you. I’m truly blessed with this next chapter and excited for everything ahead. Go Jags🐆!”

Tran is wrapping up his senior year at Hershey High School. He competed for his high school and trains year-round with Hershey Aquatic Club.

At the 2026 PIAA 3A State Championships, he placed 7th in the 100 breast (55.34) and 8th in the 200 IM (1:52.01), setting a PB in the latter (1:51.22) in prelims. He earned a lifetime best in the 100 breast at the district meet, winning the event with 55.12.

At Winter Juniors East in December, Tran placed 12th in the 200 breast (1:58.39), finishing 14 places higher and 2.2 seconds faster than he had been a year prior.  His best 200 time comes from St. Mary’s City Sectionals in March, where he was runner-up in the 200 breast (1:57.20 in prelims), 3rd in the 100 breast (55.31), and 4th in the 50 breast. He also swam in prelims of the 100 back, 200 IM and 400 IM.

In LCM last summer, Tran kicked off the season at AP Race London International, earning new PBs in the 50 breast (30.04), 100 breast (1:04.20), 200 breast (2:15.68), and 200 IM (2:09.73).

Tran’s best times would have scored at the 2026 Horizon League Championships in the ‘A’ finals of the 200 breast and 400 IM and the ‘B’ finals of the 100 breast and 200 IM.

Joining Tran on the Jags’ roster in the fall will be swimmers Colton Poe, Grantham Trumpower, Ian Malone, and Logan Poswinski, and diver Owen Johnson.

Top SCY times:

  • 100 breast – 55.12
  • 200 breast – 1:57.20
  • 200 IM: 1:51.22
  • 400 IM: 3:59.49
