I feel like he’s sooner to break the 800 WJR than going 342 in the 400

Couldn’t even break 3:45. It’s getting sad at this point.

Can’t wait for his interview with Ahmed to come out now. If is he asked about his goal for this summer he’ll probably say the American and WJR. Could realistically snag both of them at Jr. Pan Pacs or even US nationals but if he were to break it at US nationals then I think there’s a good chance he could go faster than Thorpe’s 3:41.83 by the end of the summer.

“Thorpe’s 3:41.83”

Thorpe swam that when he was 16 yo (1999 Pan Pacs, August 22). And in briefs.

It was WR, breaking previous WR 3:43.80 (Kieran Perkins) by almost 2 seconds.

Luka is already 17.

In other words, he was about 3 months younger than Luka is now.

In other words, you can’t do maths.

Thorpe was 6 months younger than Luka.

(Go check Thorpe’s and Lukas respective birthday)

Also, maybe Luka should swim in briefs to see how fast he can go?

I can do math just fine.

Thorpe was born Oct 13, 1982. That would make him 16 years, 10 months, and 9 days old on Pan Pacs (Aug 22, 1999)

Luka was born April 22, 2009. That would make him exactly 17 years and 1 month old.

Now I’m not familiar with Aussie math but I’m pretty sure 17 years and 1 month old – 16 years and 10 months is…3 months.

You’re free to correct me if I’m wrong.

August 22, 2026 Luka will be 17 years old and 4 months

August 22, 1999, Thorpe was 16 years old and 10 months

Work your math

Gay math or straight math?

If you want to use Luka’s age during Pan Pacs, he would be 5 months older, not 6. What a massive difference. But it really doesn’t matter. I can call Luka a year older if it makes you Aussies happy.

I’m not even an Australian, I’m an Indonesian living in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Of course I don’t expect an Murican to know where that is.

I don’t think this is particularly important. I wish people would quit this fixation with Thorpe as the only benchmark for trajectory. Märtens, the current WR holder, first broke 3:45 at 19. Luka is on the verge of doing it already having just turned 17 last month. This swim is a great sign heading into the summer.

Then you should have asked PFA why he compared Luka to Thorpe in the first place.

Guys quit rage baiting an Indonesian. Do you know how many volcanoes they have?

I don’t expect LM to go 3:41 but you never know. He’s an exciting swimmer

Any estimate of how much benefit current swimsuits have over briefs in a 400?

Unfortunately I was not there today to get a post race interview, but I’ll see if he’s available tomorrow to talk about that 400. I was at my college graduation today 😁🎓 back to the meet tomorrow.

Great swim, Luka! Gotta look out for Zhanshuo though … The kid is only 2 years older and 3-4 seconds faster.

By the end of this major meet cycle he will be 2 years younger with close to the same times.

Who’s gonna be 2 years younger? Assuming older? Look, I hope you’re right. Even if you’re right, the world is gonna be right there. Kick some ass, Luka!

Lot’s. Is anything done in a vacuum? We’re all comparing him to the next fastest 18 yo 400 swimmer in the US … We should also compare him to Zhanshuo.
