18-Yr-Old Ollie Moclair Rips 21.73 Lifetime Best In 50 Free At Aussie Age Championships

2026 Australian Age Championships

We entered the third day of the 2026 Australian Age Championships, where the nation’s rising stars continued their record-breaking ways at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

Racing in the heats of the boys’ 50m freestyle this morning, 18-year-old Ollie Moclair scorched a lifetime best of 21.73 to claim the top seed.

The Cranbrook swimmer’s outing erased his own Aussie Age Record for 18-year-old boys, a time of 22.04 he established at December’s New South Wales State Age Championships. That means this morning’s performance represented his first-ever foray under the 22-second barrier.

In tonight’s final, Moclair was slightly off that mark but still in stellar form, ultimately getting to the wall in a time of 21.89 for the gold.

That held a significant advantage over his competitors, with Alexander Sillitoe snagging silver in 22.55 and Joshua Conias rounding out the podium in 22.89.

Of note, Moclair’s birthday is in August, where he’ll turn 19 years of age, rendering him unable to have his 21.73 swim notch a new World Junior Record. Thus, that benchmark remains at the 21.75 American Michael Andrew logged in 2017 and Ukraine’s Nikita Sherimet then matched in 2025.

On his performance, Moclair told Swimming Australia,“I really am focusing on my sprint training. Now I don’t do anything more than 2km, I have move away from traditional training and I have had so much progress.

“I am not worried about missing the world junior record this morning. My goal right now is to become the fastest 18-year-old of all time, Caeleb Dressel holds it at 21.53 and I am curious how fast I can go – I have until August to work this out and I am so looking forward to Trials.”

The teen now ranks 11th in the world on the season.

Ismail #4 all time. A shame we didn’t get the Wang vs Ismail showdown.

After his race, Moclair spoke about adopting a McEvoy-esque training style in the past 2 years. Only doing 800m-1k of swimming/week. Had an injury during Junior Worlds last year

No Wang in the 100 free ☹️

No Australian man went under 21.8 between 2017 and 2023. Since Cam broke back out in 2023 we’ve had 6 lol

Everyone was training as 100/200 athlete.

Great result but there are only two places in the 50 free for LA so I hope some of these aspirants s would also dabble in the 100 free to boost the sprint relay depth

Damn – now if all this 50m depth can crossover into the 100 and 200 freestyle too that would be great haha
