Olympic Gold Medalist Torri Huske “I am swimming until [20]28 probably…I think three is enough”

2024 Paris Olympic gold medalist Torri Huske confirmed her plans to continue swimming through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics but said “three is enough.”

After competing at the 2026 NCAA Championships, Huske confirmed her plans saying, “I am swimming until [20]28, probably. I want to hopefully make it. I think it would be really cool to end it on a home games and then that would probably be my last meet ever. I think three is enough.”

Huske, who just finished her senior season at Stanford also confirmed that she would continue to train at Stanford the rest of the summer. “I mean, I’m going to be probably at Stanford training with her and the rest of the team whoever is there for the summer. So yeah, it’ll be fun,” Huske said.

Originally from Arlington, Virginia, Huske made her first Olympics at age 18 when she qualified for the 2020(1) Tokyo Olympics. There she finished 4th in the 100 butterfly, just 0.01 off bronze. She also won silver as a member of the US women’s 4×100 medley relay.

She made her 2nd Olympics in 2024 as she qualified individually in the 100 free and 100 fly. She won gold in the 100 fly, touching in a 55.59. She also won silver in the 100 free with a 52.29. She helped the US to two relay gold medals as the women’s 4×100 medley swam to gold in a World Record time of a 3:49.63. Huske also helped the US to gold and another World Record in the mixed 4×100 medley relay as that relay touched in a 3:37.43. She also was a member of the US women’s 4×100 free relay that captured silver.

Tickets for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics became available last week for locals in LA and Oklahoma City. Ticket sales for the general public opened today, although only the highest priced category of prelims tickets remain.

If AI does AI things… remaining a professional swimmer may look more attractive for 2029-2032 than now….

It’s pretty brutal out there for entry-level white collar work.

The female generation from the United States from 2001-2003 is excellent; I don’t know if the newer generations will be able to surpass them.

Kate Douglass’s versatility, Torri Huske’s mindset, Regan Smith’s consistency, and Gretchen Walsh’s technique

Obviously anyone whose as good as Gretchen has fantastic technique. But if I was going to identify the standout attribute of her, it would probably be “raw power and physicality in the water.”

I think Gretchen has great technique for her, but i don’t think I’d say her technique is one that’s easily transferable (and therefore isn’t great generally maybe?)

This doesn’t make her not great.

That’s why I said technique, because it’s unique and difficult to transfer.

I’ll say it one more time for the people in the back. Take a few weeks off, even take a month off. Come back for the World Cup in the fall. Train light, swim fast, and make easy money. THEN retire. You might even be able to carry sponsors for a little longer this way.

We are gonna see a big swath of retirements after 2028 and it is going to be heartbreaking.

On the women’s side alone, I expect at least Kate Douglass, Torri Huske, Simone Manuel, and Alex Walsh to retire after 2028. I think Gretchen Walsh, Regan Smith, and Katie Ledecky will keep swimming. Everyone else is probably still up in the air out of the older generation.

I’ve heard rumors that Katie is done after LA. But with how she’s swimming now who knows. I think Gretchen and Regan continue beyond 2028.

It’s not rumors. She literally said it a few times her own self.
