56.7 Backstroker Katie Yule (2020) Switches Commitment From Tennessee to USC

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

California backstroker/freestyler Katie Yule will join the USC Trojans in the fall of 2020, rather than the Tennessee Volunteers.

Yule had originally verbally committed to Tennessee as a junior in high school. But per her Instagram, Yule changed her college choice and will now join the USC Trojans. Yule currently swims for DART Aquatics  and Folsom High School in Folsom, California. She’s primarily a backstroker, but also a solid mid-distance freestyler.

Yule’s Top Times

  • 100 back: 56.71
  • 200 back: 1:58.90
  • 200 free: 1:49.40
  • 500 free: 4:53.66

USC’s coaching staff is still in flux. Longtime head coach Dave Salo announced in January that he’d be stepping down after this season to focus on training professionals and Olympic hopefuls. There’s been lots of speculation about potential candidates to replace Salo, but so far, the school has not announced any hire.

Yule joins an incoming freshman class that we recently ranked #5 in the nation. It already includes star breaststroker/freestyler Kaitlyn Dobler along with Canadian Olympic hopeful Jade Hannah. Others in the 2020 freshman class are Anicka Delgado, Andrea Santander, Caroline Famous, Adair Sand, Caraline Baker and Johanna Jorgenson.

Interesting story

Has USC confirmed this? Lots of speculation surrounds this story.

John

How so? Genuinely curious as I am not too familiar with who she is/ what the new coaching situation at USC will be.

Harry

I do not believe the schools can comment until the LOI is signed. So USC will not be able to confirm or deny.

Interesting story

This is for the fall of 2020. I would think the NLI would be signed at this time.

Swimmer

When writing the title of the article, why would you headline it with her slowest of the 4 events listed

Ladyvoldisser

Her slowest event is the 500 Free. Both the time it takes and the rate of speed. What is ya thinkin? SwimSwam knows what they doin!

Smith-King-Dahlia-Manuel

You stay classy Tennessee.

Stinky

Agreed! Both of the 200 times jump out at me, then the 500 free and finally the 100 back. Regardless, she’s damn fast! Great pick up for USC and coach #$%^&.

200 SIDESTROKE B CUT

“Simone Manuel, a 1:07 SCY 100 breaststroker, commits to Stanford.”

Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson swam for nearly twenty years. Then, Jared Anderson stopped swimming and started writing about swimming. He's not sick of swimming yet. Swimming might be sick of him, though. Jared was a YMCA and high school swimmer in northern Minnesota, and spent his college years swimming breaststroke and occasionally pretending …
