2026 Pro Swim Series — Westmont: Kate Douglass Leads Prize Money Totals with $7,500

2026 Pro Swim Series – Westmont

With the 2026 Pro Swim Series in Westmont wrapping up Saturday night, SwimSwam looked at the prize money awarded over all four days of the meet.

Overall, $116,500 was awarded in Westmont with $1,000 extra coming from ties on the final day of competition. This is $2,000 less than we saw in Austin because there were only nine “double prize money events” compared to the 11 double events we saw in January.

Kate Douglass was the big winner of the meet, taking home $7,500 after she earned $1,500 for her win in the 200 breaststroke on day one, $3,000 for her win in the 100 free on day two, and $3,000 for her win in the 100 breast on day three. Both the 100 free and 100 breast were double money events.

On the men’s side, Sam Short and Chris Guiliano both earned $6,000 for two normal prize money wins and one double money win. Short won the 800 freestyle for the $3,000 prize and the 400 free and 1500 free for $1,500. Guiliano won the 100 free for double money, along with the 50 free and 200 free.

How amazing and professional! This money should barely cover the cost of her flights, hotel, food, recovery, and suits/ equipment! (I know Kate probably gets free suits etc from arena but more just commenting how embarrassing it is that this is the premier US pro swim event and the prize money for the BEST swimmers will barely cover the expenses)

The money in these pro series meets is sooo low. There should be another zero after those win amounts.

USA swimming better not be wondering why top swimmers are looking at the EG with prize pots like this

These meets are surely part of sponsorship contracts which are really paying for the very few who are able to be professional swimmers.

Is there any chance SS can get one of the really successful pros to talk about the details of their primary suit/gear contract? I don’t want actual dollars, but it would be great to know if they get paid for placing at these events, or if it’s relative to personal bests.(Did G. walsh pick up some coins for now having the ten fastest times, for example?) Is there disincentive to swim off events, or does any PB result in a bonus? Do they get a bonus for a new PSS record, or a U.S. Open record? Is their travel/lodging/food covered for international meets? Is it a healthy per diem, or can they splurge on better hotels on the company dime?… Read more »

National Team athletes get travel assistance for Pro Swim Series meets.

Hmmmm I’ve never really asked. I’ll see who knows what.

Historically, USA Swimming had hotel and airline partners that I would guess would primarily service that. For hotel, I would imagine there’s still a designated hotel where they rent out a big room block for staff who are there and National Team athletes.

I’ve never heard any athlete complain about the quality of hotel or flight. Swimmers are used to being up early so even if USA Swimming wanted to be cheap, the 7AM flight for $275 is pretty cheap on most airlines.

Every meet I’ve been to, athletes have stayed at nice hotels. Not the Ritz, but clean and comfortable, major chains.

If USA Swimming is handling flights, why do folks leave after prelims on the last day to catch a flight home?

They want to get back to training.

I think you get that much at the China Open for checking into your hotel room.

They receive $20k for appearances fee.

“up to” so guessing most will get a lot less. I’d be really interested to learn who gets what although I know they keep those secrets close. Who do the Chinese consider a real draw, or a coup?

Should be so much more than that. How sad

What was your contribution to the prize fund this year? Did you attend any meets and buy tickets? Pay for a live stream? Pay membership dues?

If not, whose money do you think should be used?

Spectator sports with huge rewards for athletes are funded one (or both) of two ways. Either government/billionaire subsidies, or the money has to come directly or indirectly from fans, like you.

If every viewer of the meet chipped in $10, I’d imagine we could really ramp up the prize money!

Umm USA swimming has money. That is very little incentive to give to PRO athletes in our sport that are the best of the best. Sure tell me where to give $10. I doubt you’d do it.
