Riptide Swim Team’s 14-year-old Regan Smith came within tenths of another pair of 13-14 National Age Group Records during night 4 finals at the 2016 U.S. Winter Junior Championships (West). Smith now sits as the 2nd fastest 13-14 swimmer of all time in both events.
She started off the night with a victory in the 200 back, earning her 4th individual gold medal of the meet. In that race, she clocked a 1:51.79, which sits 2nd in her age group to only Missy Franklin, who still holds the NAG Record with her 1:51.07 from 2010.
In tonight’s 200 fly final, she finished just off the podium at 4th overall. This time, she was even closer to the NAG Record with her 1:56.57. With that, she’s a half second off Cassidy Bayer‘s 1:56.01 record from 2013.
