This week, Brazil will host its Winter Junior and Senior Championships, with a couple of the nation’s bigger swimming names set to attend.
The meet will take place from Wednesday, April 29th to Saturday, May 2nd in Brasilia at the Poliesportivo Ayrton Senna Complex.
This will only be the fourth year of the Brazilian Winter Senior Champs, while the Junior Champs have been running since 1984. Both meets swim together in prelims, but get separated out for the evening finals sessions. Corinthians are the defending champions of both meets.
The biggest names on the psych sheet are junior world record-holder Matheus Santana and South American record-holder Etiene Medeiros.
Santana will contest the 50, 100 and 200 free and the 100 fly. Medeiros, meanwhile, will swim the 50 free and 100 free.
Brazil already hosted its national trials for this summer’s World Championships. That meet was the Maria Lenk Trophy, which took place earlier this month. With that out of the way, most of Brazil’s biggest names – like sprinters Cesar Cielo and Bruno Fratus – will not be competing in Brasilia this weekend.
