What to Expect From The Final Night Of Competition In Irvine

INFO YOU NEED TO FOLLOW DAY 4 OF THE 2014 US NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The women’s 1500 will be a bit different tonight without distance sensation Katie Ledecky. This will be a great opportunity for some new faces to race under the lights tonight.

Caitlin Leverenz is hoping to earn her trip to the Gold Coast tonight in the women’s 200 IM. She has yet to qualify for the team this week.

The men’s 200 IM tonight is set up to be one of the best races of the week. Ryan Lochte, the world record holder, will have to fend off Michael Phelps, Conor Dwyer, Kyle Whitaker, Chase Kalisz, and Tyler Clary. This race is going to be insane.

Next is the women’s 50 freestyle, and the excitement only continues. Ivy Martin looked dominant this morning with the fastest time and top seed of 24.62. Simone Manuel and Abbey Weitzeil are both already on the Pan Pacs team, and they should be in the race tonight as well. This is Natalie Coughlin‘s final chance to make the team after finishing towards the back of the heat in the 100 freestyle final.

Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin were the top two sprinters this morning in the men’s 50 freestyle. Josh Schneider looked good at 22.00 and Cullen Jones was right behind him. It will be a fight for the final few Pan Pac spots tonight.

It’s much more peaceful to watch without Rowdy commentating this 1500 just because Katie’s not in it LOL!

I don’t know who to pick for the men’s 200 IM.

Lochte — fastest time coming into the meet.
Clary — been swimming great all week
Dwyer — fastest this morning
Phelps — hungry for his first win
Kalisz — the one Phelps annointed as his heir
