Youngstown State Names Hannah Saiz As Next Head Coach Of Swim And Dive Programs

Youngstown State has named Hannah Saiz as the next head coach of its men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. Saiz takes over after Brad Smith stepped down as head coach back in March. Smith had been with the programs for seven seasons.

“I am delighted to be back in Ohio and overjoyed to be allowed to work with a team that is so invested in each other. The future is bright!” said Saiz. “I am grateful to Ron Strollo and Matt Rollins for their commitment to this program and their faith in me, and look forward to getting to work!”

Saiz arrived at Youngstown State after most recently spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Army. She served as men’s recruiting coordinator for the program as well. The Army men finished 33rd at the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Prior to her time at Army, Saiz spent the 2022-2023 season at Boston University as an associate head coach and oversaw recruiting for the programs as well. Before her time at Boston University, she spent three seasons as Head Coach and Aquatics Director at St. Norbert College in Wisconsin.

Saiz began her coaching career at Mount Vernon (Ohio) High School from 2017-19. She also spent time at Kenyon College, her alma mater, as a volunteer assistant.

During her time as a student-athlete, Saiz swam to a Division III NCAA title for Kenyon back in 2013 in the 200 fly. She continued her training after graduation and was a member of the 2016-17 U.S. National Team.

The Youngstown State men finished 3rd out of seven teams at the 2026 Horizon League Championships while the women were 5th out of seven teams. Rising junior Olivia Sweetman won the 200 free, 500 free, and 1650 free titles to lead the women’s side while Quinn Cynor led the men’s team with a win in the 500 free.
