Yale Sweeps Southern Connecticut State, Women Add Win Over UConn

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women’s swimming and diving team closed out its final meet of 2025 in impressive fashion, defeating Southern Connecticut State University 206–55 and UConn 184–77 on Thursday evening. Swimming competitions were held at SCSU’s Hutchinson Natatorium, while diving took place at Yale’s Kiphuth Exhibition Pool.

The Bulldogs turned in an outstanding showing, setting pool records in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay, while winning 13 of the meet’s 16 events. Yale also had three double-event champions: Devyn Sargent in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, Jessey Li in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, and Morgan Cady in the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle.

The Results

  • 200-yard medley relay: Sargent, Li, Penny Zarczynski, and Sara Plunkett delivered a standout performance, breaking the pool record with a time of 1:42.70.
  • 1000-yard freestyle: Cady claimed first place, finishing in 10:40.96.
  • 100-yard backstroke: Sargent touched the wall first with a time of 55.82.
  • 100-yard breaststroke: Li captured the win with 1:02.76.
  • 200-yard butterfly: Angela Wang took first place, clocking 2:05.22.
  • 200-yard backstroke: Sargent secured another victory with a time of 2:02.94.
  • 1M Dive: Lily Horenkamp won the event with a score of 269.75
  • 3M Dive: Lola Malarky placed first with a score of 309.30
  • 200-yard breaststroke: Li finished first, posting 2:19.48.
  • 500-yard freestyle: Cady topped the field again with 5:05.11.
  • 100-yard butterfly: Ele Donegan placed first with a time of 56.60.
  • 200-yard IM: Lucy Walker won the event, touching in 2:06.99.
  • 400-yard relay: Donegan, Plunkett, Caroline McCurdy, and Li closed the meet with a pool-record time of 3:28.53.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up its final meet of 2025 in strong fashion, defeating Southern Connecticut State University, 206-55, on Thursday evening. The swimming events were held at SCSU’s Hutchinson Natatorium, while diving took place at Yale’s Kiphuth Exhibition Pool.

The Bulldogs delivered an outstanding performance, sweeping all 16 events, with Kavin Li standing out as a double-event winner in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke.

  • 1000-yard freestyle: Arshak Hambardzumyan took first, finishing in 9:16.32.
  • 200-yard freestyle: Elliot Lee touched the wall first with a time of 1:41.60.
  • 100-yard backstroke: Nick Finch claimed first place with a time of 50.07.
  • 100-yard breaststroke: Jack Saber finished first in 59.58.
  • 200-yard butterfly: Mak Nurkic Kacapor won the event with a time of 1:52.71.
  • 50-yard freestyle: Li earned first place, finishing in 21.29.
  • 100-yard freestyle: Crash Ackerly topped the event with a time of 46.04.
  • 200-yard backstroke: Christian Lee finished first in 1:51.20.
  • 200-yard breaststroke: Li picked up his second win of the night, touching the wall first in 2:04.24.
  • 500-yard freestyle: Deniel Nankov placed first with a time of 4:43.78.
  • 1M Dive: Nicholas Chau secured first place with a score of 307.35.
  • 3M Dive: Jackson Lipscomb earned first with a score of 343.00.
  • 100-yard butterfly: Jake Wang finished first in 48.06.
  • 200-yard IM: Manoli Mountantonakis captured first place with a time of 1:55.36.
  • 400-yard freestyle relay: Nurkic Kacapor, Alexander Hazlett, Ackerly, and Hambardzumyan closed out the meet with a win in 3:04.91.

NEW HAVEN, CONN– Southern Connecticut Women’s Swimming and Diving fell to division one powerhouses UConn and Yale in a battle of the Connecticut schools on Thursday Dec. 4.

Molly Kennedy led the way for the Owls winning two individual events in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle. In the 50 yard freestyle, Kennedy finished in 24.11 which is a new best in the Northeast 10 so far this season beating the previous mark set by her by .18 seconds. In the 100 yard freestyle, Kennedy crossed the line in 52.29, which is another new best in the NE10 so far this season, beating the previous mark set by her by .52 seconds.

200 Yard Medley Relay: 
A Southern Connecticut relay team of Abby Lyons, Emma St Hillaire, Julia Pitchell and Reina Loiacano placed fifth with a time of 1:55.46. Following them in sixth, was another Southern Connecticut team of Lexi DominguezClaire Hanna, Zoe McNeil and Sara Roney at 1:59.94.

1000 Yard Freestyle: 
Jasmine Urrichio placed fifth with a time of 11:01.09, following her in sixth was Lakshmi Garofalo at 11:55.62.

200 Yard Freestyle: 
Sierra DuCharme placed seventh for the Owls crossing the line in 2:02.10. Following her in seventh, was Aralyn Vogel at 2:02.86.

100 Yard Backstroke: 
Julia Pitchell placed ninth with a time of 1:03.51, following her in tenth was Roney finishing in 1:03.88.

100 Yard Backstroke: 
Ellyn Baker placed sixth with a time of 1:09.64. Allyson Quitos placed seventh at 1:10.06.

200 Yard Butterfly: 
Paola Castillo placed seventh with a time of 2:14.51. Kali Dominguez finished ninth at 2:18.23.

50 Yard Freestyle: 
Kennedy won the event, besting seven DI swimmers with a time of 24.11. Emily Denise placed ninth with a time of 25.47.

100 Yard Freestyle:
Kennedy won the event besting six DI swimmers with a time of 52.29. Baker placed ninth with a time of 57.23.

200 Yard Backstroke: 
Lyons placed ninth with a time of 2:13.62, following her in tenth was McNeill at 2:19.01.

200 Yard Breaststroke: 
St Hillaire placed sixth with a time of 2:31.40. Quitos finished in eighth place at 2:35.54

500 Yard Freestyle: 
Kali Dominguez placed seventh with a time of 5:21.45, following her in eighth was Ava Emmerich at 5:29.29.

100 Yard Butterfly: 
Castillo finished ninth at 1:02.59, following her was Roney in tenth place finishing in 1:03.39.

200 Yard IM: 
Baker placed sixth with a time of 2:17.75, following her in eighth was Lyons at 2:19.83.

400 Yard Freestyle Relay: 
A Southern Connecticut Relay team of Kennedy, Loiacano, Jillian Pitchell and Vogel placed fifth with a time of 3:47.03. Following them in sixth, was another Southern Connecticut team of Denise, Ainsley DallRachael Bing, and Garofalo at 3:59.01

Southern Connecticut is back in action tomorrow Friday December 5 when they travel to Pleasentville, N.Y. to take on Pace University in a Northeast 10 conference match up starting at 4 PM.

A Southern Connecticut relay team of Kris Janney, Nick Fournier, Jacob Tanner and Jack Simmons placed fifth with a time of 1:44.13.

1000 Yard Freestyle: 
Dylan Prescher placed third with a time of 10:13.90, following him in fourth was Sam Whitaker at 10:25.65.

200 Yard Freestyle: 
Richie Hall placed fourth with a time of 1:48.69. Following him in fifth place, was Nick Zerva with a time of 1:55.21.

100 Yard Backstroke: 
Vincent Roney placed fifth at 56.99, following him in sixth was Janney at 58.74.

100 Yard Breaststroke: 
Korbin Conliffe finished in third place with a time of 1:03.58, following him in fourth was Whitaker at 1:04.52.

200 Yard Butterfly: 
Mason Durant finished third with a time of 2:04.23, following him in fourth was Samir Souidi at 2:06.62.

50 Yard Freestyle: 
Jack Fry finished third with a time of 21.61. Ben Frazer placed fifth at 22.13.

100 Yard Freestyle: 
Fry placed third at 47.85, following him in fourth was Frazer at 48.18.

200 Yard Backstroke: 
Roney placed third with a time of 2:07.29, following him in fourth was Durant at 2:10.35.

200 Yard Breastsroke: 
Fournier placed third with a time of 2:24.35, following hi in fourth was Simmons crossing the line in 2:30.67.

500 Yard Freestyle: 
Prescher placed third with a time of 4:51.09, following him in fourth was Souidi at 4:59.49.

100 Yard Butterfly: 
Daniel Lazar placed fifth with a time of 54.10, following him in sixth was Aiden Kennedy at 55.61.

200 Yard IM: 
Whitaker placed third with a time of 2:06.52, following him in fourth was Zerva at 2:12.65.

400 Yard Freestyle Relay: 
A Southern Connecticut relay team of Fry, Lazar, Frazer and Scott placed fifth with a time of 3:16.95. Following them in sixth place, was another Southern Connecticut relay team of Kennedy, Prescher, Souidi and Hall at 3:25.21.

Southern Connecticut is back in action tomorrow Friday Dec. 5, when they travel to Pleasantville N.Y. to take on Pace University in a Northeast 10 conference match up beginning at 4 PM.

New Haven, Conn. – The UConn women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up their mid-week meet vs. Southern Connecticut State University and Yale University with one win and one loss. The Huskies fell to Yale but were able to defeat Southern Connecticut Thursday evening.

The Huskies started the meet strong with back-to-back second place finishes. The relay team of Rhian Russel, Sydney PerkinsMaggie Rhodes and Mia Hatzis finished with a time of 1:44.97 in the 200-medley relay, while Zoey Griffin secured second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:41.82. The success didn’t stop there as Mia Hatzis secured a fist place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.98.

UConn continued to battle throughout the meet, trading points with both Yale and Southern Connecticut State University. In the end, Yale was able to take the win vs. both UConn and SCSU, while the Huskies came away with a win over SCSU.

“It is important to compete at a strong meet during this week in the calendar prior to exams,” said head coach Chris Maiello. “Our team represented well and raced with intention. It was fun for the team to have an away meet with a hometown feel. That meet officially concludes the first semester of racing. We are looking forward to winter training and out next home meet 1/10.”
