Winter Juniors Qualifier Malia Fernandez Verbally Commits to UNLV

Malia Fernandez of Tracy, California has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) beginning in the fall of 2020. Fernandez swims for Central Catholic High School as well as California Gold.

I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to further my academic and athletic career! Thank you to my parents, coaches, teachers, friends and family, for always supporting me! I couldn’t have done this without them! GO REBELS!!

Fernandez swims predominantly sprint freestyle and is a 2019 Winter Junior Championships qualifier in the 50 free. She competed at the 2019 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championship, taking fifth in the 50 freestyle (24.10) and tenth in the 100 freestyle (53.24). In 2018 she was named as a member of the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team.

Fernandez will be joined by Ruby Howell and Calysta Bartlett as members of the UNLV class of 2024.
