BALTIMORE, Md. – William & Mary men’s and women’s swim teams opened their seasons on the road, both earning victories at Johns Hopkins on Saturday. The women secured a dominant 210-50 win over the Blue Jays, setting four pool records, and the men topped Hopkins 190-72.
The women placed first in all 14 of their events and the men earned a first-place finish in 13 of their 14 events. Each team won their respective relay events, placing first and second in the women’s 200 free relay, and first and third in both the men’s 200 medley relay and men’s 200 free relay.
The Tribe women dominated the 200 medley relay, sweeping the podium, while the first-place team of Kat Vanbourgondien, Lindsay Juhlin, Sophia Heilen and Sydney Querner shaved nearly two seconds off the pool record with a 1:43.28 time.
In addition to the 200 medley relay, the Tribe women set pool records at the Newton White Athletic Center with Ellie Scherer’s 1:03.77 mark in the 100 breast and Lauren Klinefelter’s 200 fly finish in 2:02.86. The 200 free relay team beat the previous mark by almost a second as the quartet of Sarah Dunham, Caroline Burgeson, Meghan Rourke and Flynn Truskett finished with a 1:35.72 time.
Holding onto a commanding lead throughout, the Tribe teams closed the meet with 63 total top-three finishes, winning 27 events, placing second in 20 and earning 16 third-place finishes. Of those, the women accounted for 35 and the men earned 28.
Twenty swimmers ended with two podium finishes in individual events, while seven swimmers earned a pair of first-place individual finishes – freshmen Aiden Bond (50 free, 100 free) and Thor Dyke (200 fly, 500 free) and fifth year Conor Sokolowsky (100 back, 200 IM) on the men’s side, with Klinefelter (100 fly, 200 fly) and Vanbourgondien (100 back, 200 back) joined by freshman duo Dunham (100 free, 200 free) and Lauren Tucker (500 free, 1000 free) for the women.
Will Glass won the 1000 free with a 9:54.51 finish and freshman Colin Mamaril’s 10:07.56 time earned him a third place finish.
Scherer won the 100 breast with a 1:03.77 time and Juhlin’s 1:06.46 finish placed her in second.
On the men’s side, Logan McDonald earned first place in the 100 breast with a time of 57:58.
Graduate transfer Jono Bennett secured his first win with the Tribe in the 200 breast, finishing in 2:07.83.
The women earned first, second and third place in seven individual events (100 back, 200 fly, 50 free, 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 200 IM) and the men did so in the 100 free.
The freshman class shared a strong first outing, accounting for 12 of the 23 individual wins across the two teams. For the men, David Yune won the 200 free with a 1:44.07 time and Kaitlyn Conover-Emmert took the win in the 200 IM with a 2:08.96 time for the women.
Freshman Flynn Truskett took first place in the 50 free with a time of 24.38, beating out Querner’s second place finish of 24.39 by a hundredth of a second.

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women’s swim team hosted William & Mary in both teams’ season-opener Saturday at the Newton White Aquatic Center. The Tribe defeated the host Blue Jays, 210-50.
Racing at home for the first time since February 2022, Hopkins opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Freshman Kimberly Lan, junior Michelle Liu and freshmen Kate Petitt and Elizabeth Cohen swam a combined 1:49.41.
Junior Kristin Cornish grabbed second place in the 1000 Free as she clocked in at 10:36.66. Sophomore Claire Han and freshman Julia Tuinman took second and third in the 200 Free. Han finished in 1:54.46 while Tuinman touched in 1:56.81. Senior Makenzie Higgins followed with a fourth-place finish in the 100 Back in 1:01.45.
Junior Taylor Rohovit out-touched Natalia Rongione by 0.12 seconds to claim third place in the 100 Breast (1:08.56). Petitt then placed fourth in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:18.32. Liu led the Blue Jays with a fourth-place finish in the 50 Free as she clocked in at 24.63. She beat Cohen by just three-hundredths of a second.
Han then placed fourth in the 100 Free as she finished in 53.59. In the 200 Back, Higgins took fourth place with a time of 2:09.25. Liu followed with a fourth-place showing in the 200 Breast in 2:29.61. Cornish grabbed another second-place finish as she swam a 5:10.72 in the 500 Free. Tuinman finished in fourth place with her time of 5:15.40.
Petitt took third place in the 100 Fly as she touched in 1:00.73. Freshman Ayden Min placed fourth with a time of 1:01.51. Sophomore Rachel Davis swam to a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM in 2:13.39, just two-hundredths of a second out of third place.
Hopkins finished up the day with third and fourth-place finishes in the 200 Free Relay. The team of Liu, Cohen, Higgins and Han finished in 1:37.79. Tuinman, sophomore Alex Watson, Lan and sophomore Alia Basler swam a 1:41.79.
The Blue Jays are back in action at the Thomas Murphy Invitational, hosted by Loyola, October 27-29. The meet also includes Towson and UMBC.
